Yes, and there’s so much more that can be said and has been said about how broad Congress’ constitutional power is, here, but is is not clear that this mechanism is like the false doors in Independence Hall: functionally useless.

Once most powerful leader in the world is “elected” that’s it.

There's no firm burden of proof for "high crimes and misdemeanors," but it's properly closer to a preponderance of the evidence than proof beyond a reasonable doubt. It's not a criminal proceeding, nobody's life or freedom is in jeopardy. It's an employment review. Likelier than not is sufficient.

During an election when a politician is trying to earn votes is not when you should influence them. Only when they're elected and we have no influence over them at all is when we influence them!

What a goober.
This is exactly the point. You elect a leader that you CAN work with and influence *AFTER* they're in power. Demanding perfection and guarantees during a campaign is nuclear level idiocy. Hurts candidates & causes.

Biden was talked into far more progressive actions in office than he campaigned on.

Congratulations to the ADL for deciding to go all-in on working with this administration because of some college student protestors who used intemperate rhetoric.
Weird how this keeps happening.

“born this way" sometimes functions as a materially useful rhetorical defense. it can pressure cishet people to drop their objections to queerness.

a thought-terminating cliche is not a bad thing if the thought being terminated is “i should hate crime this trans woman”.

Ahlam has been going to dialysis in Gaza this entire time- as you can imagine this is incredibly difficult and she needs to be somewhere better to get treatment. Even a little donation can help towards an evac fund ❤️
I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Ahlam. Ahlam has 9 daughters and a son and 22 grandchildren. She has been on dialysis for 11 years- a thing she needed 4 times a week. Today she is having a surgery on a fistula in her leg, she is hoping to evacuate Gaza for better care.

A good rule of thumb is that anyone "just asking questions" about any marginalized group already knows the answers they want to hear, and is also a bad person whose opinions mean less than those of the group they're interrogating.

Law enforcement just identified the suspect of the Brown University shootings as Claudio Valenti, a 48-year-old Portuguese national from Miami, Florida.

Authorities say that he was found in a storage unit dead by suicide.

Very few law profs believe that anyone in the administration cares that we think it routinely breaks the law. Many of us hope that other people care or can be persuaded to care about that.
NB: When I, a professor of law, profess that an act is unlawful, I am not doing it to inform the lawbreaker, but rather to inform you, the reader.

So the question “what, like you think he cares?” is inapposite. The question is whether *you* care. I think you should, which is why I bother.

it is terrifying and awful that this passed the House with any Dem support at all (and once again, the continued leadership support for Cuellar is unconscionable)

call your senators and make absolutely sure this dies in the Senate, lives are on the line

trans people deserve so much better
Henry Cuellar, Don Davis, and Vicente Gonzalez joined Republicans in voting to criminalize trans health care.

The bill passed only 216 to 214.

4 Republicans voted no. If they did too, it would have failed.

My policy is that any member who describes this behavior without saying what they will do about it is fully endorsing everything the Trump administration is doing.
I just came out of the briefing with Sec. Rubio and Sec. Hegseth on the military strikes in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific. Here's what I learned.

Bottom line: there is no legal or national security justification for what they're doing. Not even close.
