So-called #genAI means the abolition of the future through the proliferation of endless streams of stochastically rendered generic pasts. Having turned large parts of the cultural archive into training data, it now traps us in a foreverized pastness, a 24/7 nostalgia for a past that never existed

have just come across a YouTube account that has been using Sora to upload reels of fake, AI-generated “90s sitcoms” every few hours

Trump offers universities funding in exchange for segregation. That’s the clearer way to talk about his “deal.“

This is part of what that doc No Other Land was about too - a thriving non violent civil disobedience movement in a small Palestinian town and it was ethnically cleansed

There was the Great March of Return protest of 2018-2019. Peaceful resistance and what did they get for their troubles, shot in their lower extremities

also worthwhile to set the calls for peaceful resistance next to the insistence of the Israeli right and its regime allies on labeling just about all protest and dissent "terrorism" or "terrorist sympathizing" regardless of their actual tactics

Miles O'Brien fan club assemble.
The image features Chief Miles O'Brien, a character from the Star Trek universe, specifically Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The quote, "He was more than a hero. He was a union man," is a popular meme referencing Chief O'Brien's character and his background.

I have an opinion piece in the New York Times today on how the labor movement has failed to step up to the moment in countering Trump, even as Trump unilaterally strips public sector workers of collective bargaining. Labor will die as a movement if this continues.

I wonder if any university admins have thought even a little bit about what it looks like to unleash LLM chatbots—as a university-purchased, -promoted, and -legitimized “educational” enterprise technology— on a student population in the grips of a well-documented college mental health crisis

They're going to force us to use AI and then increase our workloads

(3/3) Second, expanding auto production in the US is going to be based on Industry 4.0 - the digitalization of industry with smart factories and massive data processing - to expand automation and require fewer blue collar workers to increase labor productivity. Again, GM benefits from this.

First, private union density is still on the decline while Trump is going after the NLRB, not to mention attacks on Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security will further erode the dignity and quality of life for auto workers. GM benefits from these conditions, not workers. (2/3)

In response to Trump's auto tariffs GM is reshoring by spending $4 billion in expanding production at factories in Michigan, Kansas, and Tennessee. But this isn't going to produce a return to the glory days that MAGA envisions for a couple reasons: (1/3)

General Motors Co. said it suffered a $1.1 billion profit hit from Donald Trump’s tariffs and revealed no plan for a near-term fix to return to pre-tariff profit levels.

Look at the heaps of praise she’s poured on Whitmer for bending the knee to Trump or how she has no vision for higher ed beyond AI and now she’s saying she wants to be like Mamdani? Your time is over make room for the grassroots organizers who actually give a damn

Weingarten is a plague on modern labor and is representative of the centrist neoliberal democrats in the Party. She wants the victory of Mamdani but fundamentally opposes the DSAs grassroots organizing strategy which she totally ignores.
