If we are taking in “trillion” of dollars in tariffs:

1. Why haven’t we paid down a cent of the debt?

2. Why can’t we afford to not fuck millions of people over with expiring insurance subsidies?

3. Why is none of it being used to help the abysmal job market?

... and then he's supposedly leaving for the Middle East? Why? There is a government shutdown!

Someone looking at all this with a cold eye might say that Miller and Hegseth are seeking control over the power ministries before a Vance ally invokes the 25th Amendment.

White House and DHS cancelling a $11b payment in disaster-relief funds meant to reimburse states that have already had to bear the brunt of recovery — from NC to TX.

It becomes an IOU for next year, reducing FEMA's already diminished $26.5b by nearly half. We'll have only $15.5b until Sept. 2026.
FEMA canceled $11B in disaster payments to states
The unannounced move came after President Donald Trump threatened to reduce FEMA aid, jarring emergency management professionals.

What donyou mean he's leaving for the Middle East? Was that planned? An official visit or a spur of the moment trip?

Is anyone going to ask why he would be leaving the country in the middle of a government SHUTDOWN!?!

"Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia" should be how Democrats begin every single comment to reporters these days.

Ruben Gallego on whether Trump is talking to Democrats:

“Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia, so I think there's a he's probably talking to himself, or think he's talking to a Democrat, but I sincerely doubt that that's actually he's actually physically talking to a Democrat.“

Not the main point, but this section on the Medicaid work requirements shows that the Republican model of "efficiency" is simply creating a ridiculous new bureaucracy that will force people off Medicaid.
To implement the program, CMS will have to create "rules engines" for software developers to be able to account for a person's time, he explained. "What are the rules for work hours? How do you have to actually adjudicate it? For example, what if you're paid a salary, but there's no hours on there? So we are going to adopt a process ... Maybe, for example, we'll divide the salary you have by $15 an hour ... and then we'll just give you credit for that many hours." Another example: "What does it mean if you're at school 'halftime,' how many hours is that?" he added. "And then, if you're doing community engagement, who's allowed to credential you for community engagement? Do they have to be a 501(c)(3)? So we've been spending a lot of time on that."

In addition, the new rule allows farm employers to charge H-2A workers for their housing, which was not allowed before. "It's a way for employers to continue to house workers and also charge them, and bring down effective wages," said Marcos Lopez of the Labor and Community Center at the University of California, Davis.

The complete and total bullshit about this is that it should have been the FIRST question asked of Johnson. It is a disgrace that he was not asked about this before he ended his press conference. Unbelievable that he continues to get away with this. bsky.app/profile/atru...

Apparently American journalism is so bad they can't seem to capture any footage or eyewitness reports of "hand-to-hand combat" occurring every night in major city. You'd think at least the local TV news would be getting something.
