Tyson is closing a Nebraska plant that employs 3,200 workers in order to “right-size” its business.

The meatpacking giant paid its CEO $22.7M last year, 525x its median employee's pay.

It also spent $196M in stock buybacks to reward shareholders.

Textbook corporate greed.

It’s becoming a trend: states with restrictive anti-choice laws are losing OB-GYNS.

States with full-on bans, like Texas, force doctors to make impossible decisions that could cost patients’ lives, and they want to be able to provide the right care.

Iowa doesn't have enough OB-GYNs. Is the state's abortion ban part of the problem?
Iowa ranks last among states for the number of OB-GYNS per capita. State legislators are trying to recruit more, but some doctors say the state's strict abortion ban is partially to blame.

Important history and reason for the federal agencies we have to protect health.
In 1960, Dr. Frances Oldham Kelsey, an FDA medical officer, stymied the automatic approval of thalidomide, which later was proven to cause birth defects. Her actions led to new drug regulations, requiring pharmas to ensure drugs are safe & effective.

Her refusal to approve a dangerous drug changed medical history
As federal workers face mass layoffs and a government shutdown, Dr. Frances Oldham Kelsey's story is a reminder of what public servants can do when they stand their ground.
