PyRates: A Code-Generation Tool for Modeling Dynamical Systems

🧠 Developed by @rgast.bsky.social as part of @asapresearch.bsky.social's Parkinson's research. The multi-backend approach means your dynamical systems model can follow wherever the analysis needs to go.

⚙️ Supported backends: NumPy, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Julia, Fortran, and my fav MATLAB.

PyRates is a model translator — write once, deploy anywhere. 🌐
The number of academic software tools in the world only grows with time, and learning new ones is daunting.

Here, my postdoc @rgast.bsky.social spoke about PyRates, a model translator that lets you study dynamical systems with a whole suite of tools built in Python, Julia, Matlab, and Fortran.
This month’s Discover ASAP features @rgast.bsky.social, PhD, of CRN Team Surmeier 🧪

He introduces PyRates, an open-source tool for generating code across languages to model complex biological systems. See how it advances computational neuroscience and #Parkinsons research.

This is probably the most useful thing in the piece... why LLMs are good at learning from code, and less good at learning from language. [and presumably video though they don't mention this].

Though if you point your AI to the best practices here github.com/matlab/rules perhaps it won't make quite so many blunders. Without it Claude is often convinced MATLAB should have Python's ? ternary operator! 🤔
