“There are a lot of reasons I run,” @nxthompson.bsky.social writes. “I like to remember that I’m still alive, and that I survived my cancer. But really I run because of my father.” Running “reminds me of my father, and gives me a way to avoid becoming my father.”
Why I Run
I took up the sport to be like my father. I kept going because he stopped.

“The Running Ground” by @nxthompson.bsky.social is a remarkable achievement: a literary work about life, and death, through the lens of running. This is part review, part interview, part essay about my Dad, grief, and what we choose to live for runtangents.substack.com/p/the-runnin...

Wrote a little about Cardiff Half:

“Start time approaching, I made my way to the sub-1hr30m holding pen. Before I got there, a race marshal corralled me into a pen further back, because, he said, nodding towards the sub-1hr30m area, ‘that’s for the fast lads.’”

I think about this Onion article once a week:

"Who’s your favorite actor? Frank Langella? Malkovich? How about John-fucking-Malkovich?"

Loved Raw Dog by @jamieloftus.bsky.social – a road trip across America to sample the best and worst hot dogs the US has to offer. Part social history, part travelogue, it’s funny, disgusting, sad and surprisingly horny. I finished the book with a Five Guys bacon cheese dog (would also recommend)

Sub-threshold training is the biggest leap in amateur running since carbon shoes. James Copeland’s contribution will go down in hobby jogger history. Read our interview: runtangents.substack.com/p/how-runnin...

These days the blank cheque for directing a blockbuster is getting to direct a different blockbuster. Unless Bond is Villeneuve’s “one for me” which I wouldn’t put past him
The new post Broccoli James Bond are going to be so different. Wilson/Broccoli would never have given the franchise to a director like Villeneuve. He’s too much “the auteur.” We shall see.

Viral videos and podcasts did not help a socialist win over a third of Staten Island. Be fucking serious lmao. Thanks to Zohran Mamdani, establishment Dems woke up to a jarring new political reality this morning: If you care about things people will vote for you.

Yeah I guess LeBron putting up a 22.6 PER is pretty special, but it's not that impressive when you compare him to people rolling out of bed and firing off something like this at age 86.

This week in @newyorker.com: All you need to know is that the name of the show is Blank Check.

I walked around the Museum of the Moving Image's new Mission: Impossible exhibit with the top minds behind @blankcheck.bsky.social to talk Tom, "Sinners," and Videology trivia.
Is the “Mission: Impossible” Series Tom Cruise’s “Blank Check”?
The movie podcast, which examines the crazy passion projects that directors pursue after their first big hit (“Aloha” or “Speed Racer,” anyone?) celebrates its tenth birthday with a trip to a “Mission...
