PM, ex-meta, now in robotics + AI.
I am going to Portland next week, having not been since before the pandemic. What is worth checking out?

I am trialing Bluesky by posting things here that are too dumb to tweet.

English ales are sort of the opposite of Thai curries in that it reflects poorly on the originating country.

I feel like I am getting a lot of followers here despite not using Bluesky recently. Is there exodus from Twitter I mean X?

Back here after rage quitting Twitter, but a part of me wonders if the Twitter-shaped hole in my heart really ought to be filled with another app.

In NYC for weekend (break from work trip to east coast). If I have any friends/mutuals there on this app who want to hang out, let me know!

Great article as always. I think the truth is that there were a small vocal minority of people like me who used Twitter to socialize, albeit paradoxically, a la 2014 FB, but it is really meant to be a broadcast medium. https://stratechery.com/2023/threads-and-the-social-communications-map/

hey remember when they stole the only thing a monkey loved and gave it 2 replacements and neither were quite what it wanted?

Okay, so for all the new people, there is a superstition that you can’t refer to this app by its name — we usually say “the Polish social network.”

Twitter was a ZIRP phenomenon.

Twitter users switching to Bluesky over the weekend.

So that’s why I get an error when I try to view Twitter on my phone. Insane. Guess I’ll be here now.

Gonna have to read this one! I was PM responsible for locking down the Graph API call to fetch profile photos.
The book has covers! US and UK went in very different directions. Dropping in September. I can’t wait. https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/691288/your-face-belongs-to-us-by-kashmir-hill/

Visiting New Orleans for vacation this week and getting a kick out of bartenders asking “For here or to go?” when you order.

Show of hands: have folks replaced most of their Twitter consumption with Bluesky?

It seems like something has changed a ton post-Musk and just not getting value out of posting there anymore. But don’t know if due to algos or because most of my friends have actually migrated elsewhere.

There is a restaurant near my office called "The Cook & Her Farmer" and any time I walk past it, I shake my head at how gratuitously twee the name is.

The "My Feeds" thing in Bluesky is really cool and is something that sets it apart from Twitter/Mastodon

A frequent antipattern I often see when coming in as a PM (or when the first "nontechnical" person joins a team) is when the team is set up as a "hub and spoke" around the EM with no shared systems. Very painful to change habits, esp. if team is mature and otherwise working well.

If person next to you on a Southwest flight gets up, it’s fair game to take their seat, right?

So apparently the only way to get the official ChatGPT app is via link; if you search for it on App Store you get a million knockoffs. It feels like OpenAI will inevitably come to same conclusion as Twitter when it comes to consumer apps.

A third of my friends are on Twitter, a third on Mastodon, and a third on Bluesky. It feels like something's been lost. But also an opportunity to re-evaluate relationship with these platforms.

One thing I still don’t understand is how my wife takes not, like 10 or 20% longer to get ready to leave house for an errand, but like entire orders of magnitude (5x,10x?) longer. I could just do the errand myself and be back in the time it takes.

“Netflix and chill” originated in rare window of time where millennials preferred streaming services and there were no other viable streaming services.
