I really enjoyed talking to Tom Steyer abut the climate movement and abundance!

“Do I think we can build solar arrays in the desert without disturbing the desert at all? No [but] of course we have to.” - @tomsteyer1.bsky.social

We don’t have a no-impact option. Only build-or-burn.

I called the governor to ask him to sign SB 79. It was easy and it only took a few minutes.

"But if you think you're gonna do huge things without any negative side effects, then you're in California.

You don't get anything done. We need to get things done. We need to build. I mean, you do it in a fair way, but we can't take 10 years to get an apartment" - @tomsteyer1.bsky.social

That’s nonsense. Did you actually read the book?

There’s no “abundance” stance on school vouchers either way
armanddomalewski.bsky.social
The most Abundance Governor in the county is undeniably Josh Shapiro, who’s most famous abundance accomplishment is a super fast road rebuild using union labor
ddayen.bsky.social
Also Brock Hrehor on how Jared Polis absolutely sucks. For all the insistence from the Abundance set that they are really truly pro-labor liberals, I don't think it's a coincidence that the politicians who support their ideas the most do stuff like this:

The Democrats’ One and Only Union-Busting Governor
Colorado’s Democratic legislature voted to repeal the state’s de facto right-to-work law. On Friday, Gov. Jared Polis vetoed it.

Jane is a hero and I’m very frustrated she was removed from the Airport Commission for basically no reason

the jeffersonian tilt of anti-trust is one reason, imho, some of its loudest advocates occasionally fall into a reactionary producerism, whereby the small business owner is always Good and anyone who seeks to limit their autonomy is Bad www.theargumentmag.com/p/the-proble...

I have been involved with this stuff for a long time and the left wing statewide groups like the Western Center and ACCE have consistently opposed YIMBY upzoning efforts from the start, despite YIMBY groups supporting several rent control measures

I think it’s pretty telling that the people who hate speed cameras also often want more police enforcement of traffic violations—because they trust that cops aren’t going to go after *them*
nextdoorsv.bsky.social
People on NextDoor frequently think that the reason cities keep recklessly adding speed bumps is because we've defunded the police. All time I see requests for more traffic enforcement.

Reality: Police and Fire take up 50% of most city budgets. In Redwood City, it is already 57%!
armanddomalewski.bsky.social
Also the whole framing of cities as less affluent in suburbs is kind of outdated, NYC and SF are much more expensive than their nearby suburbs
armanddomalewski.bsky.social
It is very much not a minor part of the discourse, and in practice what you see is that left wing groups *oppose* upzoning of suburbs! When CA YIMBY passed SB-9 all of the “equity” groups in Sacramento fought it
armanddomalewski.bsky.social
I mean these are mostly single family neighborhoods within the legal boundaries of SF, yes. But CA YIMBY has also passed (and tried to pass) a lot of bills to upzone suburbs

"New York requires a quarter-inch metal-bar lattice for office drop-ceilings... These only-in-New-York systems are robust and pricey, and it’s not clear whether the rest of the country’s office drones have a problem with ceilings collapsing on their cubicles." www.vitalcitynyc.org/articles/the...
Vital City | The High Price of Fine Print
Overly complex building codes are a big reason why housing construction costs so much.

armanddomalewski.bsky.social
I mean that’s just false, in SF YIMBYs are fighting for the first significant upzoning of the affluent west side neighborhoods in our city’s history
armanddomalewski.bsky.social
Yes, I don’t think housing is the only way that we can materiały improve the lives of the working class. They need clean energy, childcare, etc too
