Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

I’m a career prosecutor who took a $25,000 check from an affiliated entity of Donald Trump’s while investigating Trump University and later left my lobbying firm to become Donald Trump’s personal impeachment lawyer, White House aide, and Attorney General. So don’t you DARE question my integrity.

how do these people pray?

Like "Dear God, give us the courage to beat the shit out of peaceful protesters, the wisdom to zip-tie children together, and the strength to drive combat vehicles towards small groups of grandmothers..."

There are folks on the neighborhood FB group who, when even any sort of disturbance or petty crime is reported, say things like "the National Guard can't come soon enough" and it's driving me absolute bonkers. (And I stay off the "crime watch" group where it must be incessant.)

These programs weren't set up this way simply for the benefit of recipients. They are by design also a subsidy for American agriculture. That's the longstanding red-blue, rural-urban political deal of it. Like how they're getting nuked by the trade war, they are cannibalizing their own coalition.

The FAA is delaying flights at Newark and Denver airports because they haven’t got enough air traffic control. Burbank has zero ATC from 4.30-10pm.

Lots of controllers who aren’t being paid during the government shutdown are calling in sick.

Atlanta has been been rapidly gentrifying for years & seen tremendous growth in property values since 2011. Yet the public schools starve. And now Mayor wants to extend its tax increment districts, which include some of city’s hottest areas, for 25 years, diverting more $ from schools. #AtlantaWay

APS budget report warns of “math problem” as spending outpaces revenue

At its Budget Commission meeting, Atlanta Public Schools (APS) presented a stark financial outlook marked by rising costs, declining enrollment, and revenue shortfalls.

Major cost pressures include state health insurance and pension increases (about $25 million combined), competitive teacher pay, and under-enrolled schools. Enrollment in APS’s traditional public schools has dropped 16% since 2016 as charter and private options have expanded. The report cited an “immediate need for efficiency and sustainability,” warning that extending tax allocation district (TAD) agreements could further constrain revenue.

APS leaders are looking to consolidate facilities, moderate pay growth, and review program efficiency to restore long-term financial health.
