I think more than anything the gold plate works in a similar way. He is not emotionally regulated enough to handle the stress of living in a space that doesn't look like home, so he is using gold plating as his transition object.

Kids can still visit the sites, they just can't have an account.

Visiting these sites with an account would mean companies would have to make changes to protect kids, because the companies know their ages

This is about *looking* like the gov is doing something while letting companies off the hook.

In both instances it is about underscoring who owns the bodies in question. The state owns the bodies of women; parents own the bodies of their children.
