#TidyTuesday (2025-09-30) | Crane Observations at Lake Hornborgasjön, Sweden (1994–2024)

This week, I focused on the sharp, sustained spike in September counts starting around 2012, a potential sign of shifting migration patterns.

I know everything is terrible, but have you ever smooshed your face into the fluffy belly of a very purry cat and just, like, held it there for a bit?

Instant mood boost (provided you're not allergic, ofc).

The belly in question:
Max, a big tabby cat, laying belly up on a green blanket.

Before I code something from scratch, does anyone have a #rstats function like setdiff but it works with named lists and/or data frame rows? Optionally dropping duplicate values and keeping the differences from the first list?

I am marking student term papers. For most of them, it was their first time learning about #rstats and it's wonderful to see their amazing progress in just one semester + the summer break! Sometimes the way they describe what they did makes me smile. For example, one wrote that they "build their […]

ICYMI, @sara-altman.bsky.social and I have been writing a biweekly newsletter on AI and open source data science on the @posit.co blog!

A bit about how that came to be on my #rstats blog: www.simonpcouch.com/blog/2025-10...
A screenshot of the Posit Blog homepage showing statistics (936+ posts, 22+ categories, 386+ tags) and two featured blog post cards. Both posts are AI Newsletter roundups from September 2025 by Sara Altman and myself, featuring AI-related R package hexes in their hero images.

Researchers: just publish your damned code.

When I see footnotes like this I assume you're not confident about your results and don't want others to discover your mistake(s).

What’s even the point of this?
Genuine question, what counts as an unreasonable request here?

Oh, maybe my 5-year-old niece would have tried recreating the plots. That’s why, right?

This was from Nature and it seems quite promising (related to climate change and child mortality in LMICs).

I wanted to read and look at the analysis, etc. How am I supposed to trust this research when I can’t see the code behind the findings mentioned?
