I do think a judgment will be due to on those that support this administration.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

Why the bloody hell is Facebook asking to edit picture of my niece with AI? Why is that an option? What is the point of it?

No but how insane is it that this guy was who we had before Trump?
Remember the time Obama personally caught a fainting woman during his speech — rather than just blankly staring like a sociopath?

This is excellent, worth a read. As an educator, it is one of the most frustrating things to hear ‘why don’t you teach X’. Half the time, we do, you just didn’t listen. And the other issue is capacity. I’m desperately trying to organise more trips and clubs. But I’m already overextended, by choice.
For political hacks like myself, 'put it in the curriculum' is the oldest and hattiest of old hat policy ideas.
Why do we think schools should solve all our problems? What if we thought differently about life skills and civic education?

It’s startling how the more you read, and teach, Romeo and Juliet, the less and less you see it as a love story. Sure there’s passion and love there, and it drives much of the plot. But it’s secondary to the human condition, particularly the brilliance and brittleness of youth.

Look I got hammered with Lammy randomly back in the day but her also screwed over someone I know. To call him untalented is by beyond stupid. The guy is a shark and Cummings is just bitter he can’t have the same level of influence Lam does.
Dominic Cummings has this racialised take on David Lammy
There is an increasingly prevalent kneejerk online rightwing trait to call the presence of any black or Asian person a diversity hire

Eugenics, but…no, still racist.

Non-militarised and security network don’t work in the same sentence.
The Green Party condemns Russia’s invasion, backs Ukraine’s sovereignty, and urges peace talks. It opposes NATO expansion and supports replacing NATO with a cooperative, non-militarised European security framework 💚

I’m pretty draconian when it comes to law and order. But no, the death penalty is not the solution as it doesn’t work. Would I care if murderers who hurt innocent people swung, no. Would it stop one would be killer? No. Obviously.

Memento mori
It’s because no-one likes admitting they’ve got older: if states were having to spend more for the same results because, say, AI meant that students needed to stay in school much longer, wouldn’t be as much widespread denial about it IMO.
“Someone else can pay for it”ism seems to have infected huge swathes of British politics. Left variants include wealth tax, more tax on the ultra rich, “debt doesn’t matter”, etc. Right variants include deporting people on welfare, “efficiency” cuts, etc.

Used to have this issue with right wingers that argued for people working into their 70s and 80s. Hardwoods said something about how he’ll probably not stop working to which I pointed out how different it is to write, voluntarily, for a living, vs working with a shovel and hammer all your life.
“Humans can just go get manual labor jobs if desk jobs are repaired with AI” is both not going to suffice to provide enough jobs and is also going to result in massive societal anger because manual labor jobs often *are terrible*, which is why people have worked hard to avoid them for generations.
Even if society provided the food/shelter level needs for everyone, humans also need to perform useful work just for basic fulfillment. The vast majority of people cannot sit around all day letting AI and robots do everything.
(The definition of “useful work” here is malleable but still essential)
