unironically, RETVRNing to proper religion (by which I mean polytheism) would solve this

just sacrifice a goat or something on the sun god's festival day. maybe a few cows if you're a big solar farm. a chicken for rooftop solar. boom, all perceived/implicit moral outlays reconciled.

reject the unnatural "theory of mind" forced on us by cultural barriers, RETVRN to monoculture-powered personal gods

basically, yes

(First Order? Exegol? What are you talking about? Come on, we've got some PL-1 resignations to misfile.)

I think "sapient" would be a more correct term than "sentient" here

unless of course I've misread things and you're actually talking about the ability to respond to stimuli

ultimately this all goes back to the hand of the author, rule 0 for all storytelling: if the audience can see it, it's game over, you lose.

strictly speaking, it's not the intentionality itself that kills things, it's the audience realizing there's something behind the camera capable of intent.
November 23, 2025 at 4:27 AM
intentional is fine, but it can't *look* intentional

cutting in to a closer shot that shows the scars: fine.

actually zooming, or going so close that it *only* shows the scars: "HEY DIPSHITS. LOOK AT THE SCARS. CAN YOU SEE THE SCARS? I KNOW YOU'RE A BUNCH OF BLIND MORONS SO IT MIGHT BE HARD."

Starting to feel like those things all correlate with each other

like how Elon couldn't get Grok to stop being woke without also making it stupid and insane

I don't think that's more right-wing than the average person, though.

...Correction: I *really hope* that isn't more right-wing than the average person.

well, Liz Cheney would also be a much better president than Trump, so we wouldn't have the same level of hard-line "the only moral interaction with this person cannot be described online" opposition to her administration

that describes statistically all discords ever created

I don't trust their opinions on Pixar movies either tbh

half of them think Wall-E was a plausible depiction of humanity's future, at least 10% think it's an inescapable prophecy, and I guarantee there's someone who thinks it's an *accurate* depiction of our *present*

there are vastly more christian fascists than "new atheist" fascists

bringing fascism up as a rebuttal to OP's post frames fascism as an atheism problem, which it isn't

Not in any meaningful sense. The niche will exist in any society big enough to have significant inequality, empire or not.

It's also not really about inequality at all, because it works the same way if you swap "inequality" for "infant mortality" or "famine" or any of a bunch of other things.
November 20, 2025 at 11:21 PM
I'd argue the ecological niche has very little to do with empires – re: inequality, it lets people [a] discharge their feelings (& perceived moral obligations) about the existence of inequality, [b] feel virtuous about it, and [c] avoid the sisyphean-to-impossible task of actually fixing inequality.

there are vastly more Christians who hold that position than there are atheists who hold it

also Christians came up with it (at least in that specific form) in the first place

so it's kinda nonsensical to cast it as an atheist position
