If you're going to buy two books you might as well buy three. There might even be a law to that effect.

Man at Paddington Station has a hardback copy of Bill Maynard's autobiography. And even more surprising than that is that the man isn't me.

A few years back my place of employment discovered a local rentable Alpaca. His name is Allen and he has now made appearances at kids holiday parties, company breakfasts and staff town halls. I make it a point to get a picture with him each time. This was our latest last week.
A middle-aged man poses for a selfie with Allen the Alpaca.

Entirely appropriate that I needed that ladder to retrieve The Spiral Staircase from the top shelf.

Just to be clear, an English degree - learning to critically assess texts - is actually one of the most dangerous for people such as Badenoch.

An educated population, able to bring hundreds of years of context to statements in a dawning age of AI slop and attention-seeking dishonesty is also vital.

So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to “defend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.
Badenoch: Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English
The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut

This is a good game.

I have an English degree and boosted a major publishing house’s share price, and saved a high street retail chain from closure.

If a Mickey Mouse degree lets you create actual Mickey fucking Mouse, it’s probably easily as good “for the economy” as business studies.

*deep sigh* Again, I have an English degree and have contributed rather extensively to the British economy, including writing a show that pumped £10 million into Wales. But the stupidity is the point here, of course.

Badenoch and Co see education only as a means to a massive income in some soul destroying career.

Devoid of imagination and the power of knowledge they view life entirely through the prism of the CV.

My advice always is to study what interests you and the rest will follow

I'm sure it will be fine - there's even some red rum in the mini-bar.

Overheard (separately) while leaving the theatre:
"We're so lucky with what we get here".
"I need to read a review to understand what I've just seen".

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

Cause of Death: Severe burn.
Ben Shapiro @benshapiro 1d If you're at a dinner and somebody introduces himself as "Dr. Smith," you'd be rather upset to learn that he had a doctorate in musicology if you were to suffer a stroke at the table.

Evan Williams @evanwilliams... 36s
