Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

I know statistics are poorly understood and are misused. But facts matter

Between the 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021 Census *every* ethnic group in the UK has become *less* geographically segregated and *all* groups, majority and minorities, are more likely to interact with people not like them

Hmmm, why is the telegraph promising me a good time…?

Gimme some more of that sweet sweet progressivism…

Our movement is living rent free in the heads of Telegraph journalists at the moment.

This is just a flavour of our full set of design principles.

Check out the resources and let us know what you think. Would you recommend the resources to another teacher? Do our design principles come across in the materials?
darrenmacey.bsky.social
Finally, we carefully considered the ways that we are representing #maths the discipline in our materials, taking care not to reinforce harmful stereotypes and actively seeking to connect maths to creativity, joy, and wonder while explicitly considering the social and ethical implications of it.
darrenmacey.bsky.social
Supporting teacher agency is another key principle. We designed the materials to be flexible, carefully wording ideas as suggestions for action to be adapted by teachers to suit their needs.

Student agency is also important to us & the resources encourage students to experiment & play.
darrenmacey.bsky.social
Alongside this is a commitment to equity & accessibility. We designed our materials according to a set of published guidelines, again informed by research.

We also worked with an excellent graphic designer @wmarler.bsky.social who helped with accessibility:

First comes research & evidence. We reviewed stats education research & also research from other subjects relevant to the context of biology & ecology, & aligned our resources to recommendations. Broadly these were: Real or realistic data; active learning; embed technology; & prioritise analysis.

Have you seen our new #statistics #education resources for #MathsWeekScotland?

Kemi Badenoch says her favourite author is Terry Pratchett. One wonders what draws her to the Discworld. The Vimes Boots theory of inequality? The celebration of diversity in Ankh Morpork? The lesson that those who claim to have the answers are not to be trusted?

We can all agree that the attack on the Synagogue in Manchester was terrorism

So why is setting a Mosque alight just 'arson' and a 'hate crime' and also not terrorism?

the right to peaceful protest (even when you don’t like the cause or the protestors or how often they do it) is not a gap in the law, it’s called living in a free democratic state.
paulbrand.bsky.social
Home Secretary tells Sky News that “there is a gap in the law” when it comes to frequent, repeated protests on the same issue. Hence she will be giving police greater powers to move them to another location or time.

And right now the only antidote is @zackpolanski.bsky.social and the greens.

Whether you agree with their policies or not the Green Party is absolutely fundamental to the future health of British politics in this climate
danielsohege.bsky.social
British politics is basically a doom spiral of increasingly unhinged hostile policies.

Reform says something unhinged
⬇️
Labour counters with their own unhinged policy
⬇️
Tories shout from back they'll be even more unhinged
⬇️
Reform announces different unhinged proposal in response

And repeat...🔁

Typical Labour bring in a disproportionate stupid law and when people protest it, make the protest illegal.

This is grim & dangerous over reach.

This is a government that have lost the moral argument & are still selling arms to Israel. Now further cracking down on dissent.

Absolutely the opposite of what they should be doing - so of course this is what the Labour Government choose.

NEW: Home Office announces planned new anti-protest powers, mainly aimed at pro-Gaza protests like those for Palestine Action. Police will be able to consider the "cumulative impact" of repeated protests and potentially order that they be relocated.

Wish I could say I was shocked, but here's the Labour government constraining the right to peaceful protest again...

'You can protest but only according to our rules. The rules are: you're not allowed to use any of the tactics that make protest effective.'
