Lover of popular music but always wanting to find out more. That golden period between 1978 and 1985 is where my heart lies but always willing to try something else. https://open.substack.com/pub/daveross100?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=293r7s

Being given access to Justin Currie's Tremolo Diaries has been a privilege. I just hope my review does it justice. Thanks to @peteselby.bsky.social for trusting me with it. @newmodernbooks.bsky.social

The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Foxey Lady

No one has ever looked cooler than Jimi here. No 3 piece has ever sounded better. I may have peaked early...

I also need to know: I am fairly middle-of-the-road on Taylor Swift but someone I know called her the Greatest Living Lyricist. She is not.

Who is yours? Either the greatest or your favorite?
daveamitri.bsky.social
Jolene?... Now that would be a scandal.
daveamitri.bsky.social
Coincidentally I did once do a comparison piece with Taylor and Justin being 2 sides of the same story using 1989 and Waking Hours...

Hi Emily, the answer for me is always Justin Currie of Del Amitri. Google a lyric, any lyric and you'll find something wonderful 😊

Having grown up in the 80s Thatcher's government was full of Heseltines. Old school politicians you didn't have to agree with to respect and feel like they were at worst honourable. He wasn't perfect by a long way but he stood on the right side of history that was fresh for his generation.

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

Simon Jordan on TalkSport, unchallenged yet again.

As a Talksport employee, I am embarrassed by this rebuttal of what Neville said. This moron pontificates without question. It is bonkers.

And yeah, i'll probably be sacked. Fuck it.

Welcome To The Pleasuresome |
Frankie Goes To Hollywood | 1984

The singles were all amazing but it’s the full whistles and bells album version of Welcome To The Pleasuredome that makes my list. It ebbs and flows to perfection, a sonic masterpiece.

My English teacher was married to a minister. She was physically assaulted and had her shoes stolen at a gas station by a foot fetishist. We knew this because the teacher had wallpapered his classroom with the news articles about it, which made it very clear the worst details were not fit to print

Fence #26 will be a special on all things print, and in tribute to the storied history of the UK gutter press, our letters page wants your GOSSIP & SCANDAL.

So, we're asking you all: what was the most scandalous (true or false) bit of gossip that dominated your school or neighbourhood growing up?
A photo of assembled paparazzi waiting to snap your shame for the scandal sheets.

Fluesy? It's a mood thing. Almost meditative. Whatever. I love it 😍

Ha ha about seven minutes in is such a brilliant pace change before Holly kicks in again. There's another word for it... 🤔

13 minutes and 40 seconds flew past. Absolute masterpiece. Euphoric.

I'm trying to think of the word but it has a relentless magical quality made up of many parts sewn together perfectly by Trevor Horn. (That's lots of words)
