It would be great if we could take a whole country and change the default speed limit to 20mph and then compare it to one left at 30mph. What if it reduced casualties by 25% and with lower risk reduced insurance premiums by £45 a year? Well it did! bit.ly/4gIBPlJ

No women, no safety

Women on bikes are the indicator species of a city’s cycling health.

If you don’t see many of us, it’s not about lack of interest — it’s about safety.

Good thing that we dumped our carbon taxes to appease the fossil fuel cartel, especially since we want to INCREASE our trade with the EU that's imposing a carbon border tax.
Or did I possibly get that wrong?

Trump to generals: "Canada called me a couple weeks ago. They want to be a part of it. To which I said, 'Well, why don't you just join our country. Become the 51st state. And you get it for free!' So I don't know if that made a big impact but it does make a lot of sense."

Every time someone says EVs need to be cheaper, they are, just not here, due to lobbying by GM and Ford. Vote with your dollar responsibly if that bugs you.

Nations’ plans to ramp up coal, gas and oil extraction ‘will put climate goals beyond reach’ “To keep the 1.5C goal in reach, the world needs rapid reductions in coal, oil and gas investments, redirecting those resources towards an energy transition that prioritises equity and justice,” t.ly/Aea9T

"Some" is very polite way of saying, as Bill McKibben said, "stupid."

After seeing your post I went on line and booked an appointment for today which given I am travelling tomorrow could not have come at a better time. Thanks Oly.

The big one to overcome is "It's too dangerous." Winnipeg needs to invest much more "in bike lanes and traffic-calming measures" if we hope to get more butts on bikes. Reducing speed limits on residential streets to 30 kph would be a good start in providing more options. @safespeedswpg.bsky.social

Trump’s climate con job. "If you thought climate change was off the political agenda, Donald Trump would like a word. Meandering words. Megalomanical words. Menacing words. Words tortured into the obverse of obvious truths." “the stupidest speech in UN history,” reckons Bill McKibben. t.ly/N4_4Q

How can so many of us "know what's up" and yet so many of our elected officials don't get it?
daveelmore12.bsky.social
Children. When will the speaker start coming down on this kind if ridiculous behaviour.
daveelmore12.bsky.social
School streets should only be the start. We need to make residential streets safe for kids to bike/walk to school. A safe street around the school is great but we need to give kids back the freedom that cars took from them. @cityofwinnipeg.bsky.social lets starts by reducing speed limits to 30kph.

Cars versus kids: How resistance to change limits children’s right to the city. Arguments against school streets are "not truly about risks to children, but rather an unwillingness to share power, space and opportunities with children in urban settings." t.ly/HNQUc
Cars versus kids: How resistance to change limits children’s right to the city
Through a long history of prioritizing cars in our cities, we have normalized not seeing or hearing children on our streets.

Thank you @mmarginet.bsky.social.
For many people with developmental disabilities in Winnipeg, reliable buses are a lifeline to jobs, friends, and community. Late, crowded, or limited service doesn’t just frustrate — it excludes. Investing in reliable transit leads to a more inclusive Winnipeg.

Thanks to @mmarginet.bsky.social for clarifying some of the misunderstandings of our new transit system and making it clear that "It doesn’t matter what a city says it wants to be, a city’s vision is shown in what it chooses to budget for." t.ly/ixbKX
Opinion: Funding Transit a necessity
While the new Winnipeg Transit network launched in June 2025 has achieved many of its objectives, it’s important to assess what is and isn’t working in order to see Winnipeg Transit reach its full pot...

Really excited that Time Magazine excerpted my chapter highlighting the vital role of women in climate leadership — especially in a time of so much “green hushing.” It’s courageous women who are standing up, speaking out, and moving climate action forward.
