@martylenz.bsky.social WAIT, WAIT... did you just level up and create a new category?? Is a "super question" better than a "great question"? 😆

Meanwhile, every night Rockies beat writers curse the baseball gods (and, likely, the Monforts under their breath), question all of their life choices, and pass around a bottle of tequila.

@martylenz.bsky.social Ok, I was in car and didn't hear completely, but did your interviewee in the earlier Governor/ICE segment go full Vanilla Ice? I heard "collaborate and listen" but don't know whether he got in the "stop." But sadly that's all my brain retained. Happy Friday!

@martylenz.bsky.social "Setting aside the emoluments issue...."?! 1) No, can't just ignore that, 2) sad pathetic times we live in, 3) I know you work hard at being objective, but c'mon, 4) maybe something like "In addition to the obvious violation of the Constitution...."? Have a good day my friend!

1000x THIS!
And this is why due process, and requiring the government to justify to a judge *why* they grabbed you off the street and stuck you in jail, matters
So therefore the court finds that she does not pose danger to community or present risk of flight.

THE COURT ORDERS THE GOVERNMENT TO RELEASE OZTURK FROM CUSTODY IMMEDIATELY.

"Ms. Ozturk is free to return to her home in Massachusetts."

@martylenz.bsky.social @koacolorado.bsky.social Would love it if you could just play the Steve Roberts interview (5am hr) on loop. ALL PERSONS are entitled to due process; due process is THE FOUNDATION OF OUR CONSTITUTIONAL ORDER. Shout it from the mountaintops! -Your friendly neighborhood attorney

The opposite of preserving, protecting and defending the Constitution.
Trump says the quiet part out loud:

to him, judicial hearings before disappearing people he or his armed agents regard as dangerous or undesirable into foreign dungeons or torture chambers isn’t what “America is all about.” He literally sees due process of law as a nuisance:

THIS. The rule of law is everything.
I opened Friday's PFT Live by addressing something not about football. The feedback was surprisingly positive. I wrote something about that issue tonight. If you're interested, here it is. If you're not, don't read it. Either way, have a good evening.

“The government has sought to use its immense power to dictate the positions that law firms may and may not take. ...The executive order seeks to control who law firms are allowed to represent. This immensely oppressive power threatens the very foundations of legal representation in our country.”
"A federal judge on Tuesday blocked" Trump's "retribution campaign" against Susman Godfrey and others, calling it "'a shocking abuse of power....While I wish other firms were not capitulating as readily, I admire firms like Susman for standing up and challenging it.'”

Judge Blocks Trump From Retaliating Against Susman Godfrey Law Firm
It’s the latest setback to the president’s efforts to wield government power to punish law firms. A federal judge called it “a shocking abuse of power.”

Steve Kerr: "I believe in academic freedom. I think it's crucial for all of our institutions to be able to handle their own business the way they want to. And they should not be shaken down and told what to teach, what to say, by our government. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard."

It’s been a full week, and not a single penguin has backed down or sold out. Could there be a lesson here for America’s law firms and universities?

"Path of perfect lawlessness" was spot on. Lawless fucking monsters.
UPDATE: ICE is wildly unconcerned about where this man is and no one will tell me, his registered attorney. The universal answer so far is "let's wait and see where he ends up." This is deeply off.

We would have more rights at this point if UPS had lost a pair of shoes I'd just bought from Zappos
My detained client was scheduled for a bond hearing this AM in a MA immigration court. He wasn't brought in, and he and his case have disappeared.

I then received this notice of activity on a nonexistent docket in which his name was changed to "N/A"

It's all happening a lot faster than I expected

Trump told America he had a deal with far-right El Salvadoran dictator Nayib Bukele to temporary hold U.S. deportees for a fee.

Now we know that was a lie.

Trump told Bukele he'd _sell_ him bodies to _own_—to be housed in his massive prison (CECOT) until death.

America is back in the slave trade.

If a law firm won't risk everything to defend itself, what makes you think it will risk anything to defend you?

My advice: Find a law firm that will not back down and will never bend a knee.

If the Supreme Court ultimately agrees with what the gov't is arguing today, that the President has broad Article II powers that would permit it to deport people & there can be no judicial review, then literally no one is safe.

People need to be crystal clear about something: The requirement that the government ANSWER to a court on the legal basis for detaining someone is literally the core liberty right (habeas corpus). If the government says they don’t have to do that bc “national security,” YOU can be disappeared.

I’m sure it’s just my TDS, but I think Trump is proving to be exactly as bad as we said he was going to be and people who acted like we were hysterical should be embarrassed they didn’t do more to try and stop it.

The direct threat to the rule of law by this "administration" (using quotes to account for whatever DOGE is) could not be more serious or overt.
As a journalist who covers extremism at the local level, I think it’s a mistake to view Trump’s Napoleonic statement as solely about presidential power. Consider if it’s interpreted as a wink and a nod for any extremist to act outside the law to “save” the country as they see fit
