In 1914, Mykola Leontovych composed and practiced the song we now know as 'Carol of the bells' in Pokrovsk, eastern Ukraine. He was murdered by a Russian agent in 1921. Pokrovsk is now under siege and mostly destroyed by Russians. Remember this when you hear 'Carol of the bells' this Christmas.
