NEW, from me: One startling stat captures just how badly the year went for the GOP.

Democrats flipped 21% of all GOP-held legislative seats at play.

That's thanks to gains they made in six states this year, and I break it all down in my latest:
In 2025, Democrats Flipped 21 Percent of GOP-Held Legislative Seats - Bolts
At the start of Donald Trump’s first presidency, in 2017, large Democratic victories in New Jersey and Virginia, paired with overperformances in special elections, foreshadowed the blue wave of the......

We have never seen anything like this year.

A year of hell for immigrants
In the first Trump administration, cruelty was the point. Now, it is the norm.

A huge night for Democrats:

—They flip Miami's mayorship.
—They flip a state House district in Georgia that had voted Trump by 13%.
—They keep Albuquerque's mayorship, while the liberal faction flips city council.
—And they get big overperformances (+18 & +22) in 2 Florida specials.

This Georgia flip is in a district that the GOP drew to drown Democratic voters in Athens into a neighboring red county, Oconee.

But tonight, Dems in Athens were out in FULL FORCE to swamp that gerrymander.

BREAKING: Democrats have *flipped* a seat in Georgia's state House tonight.

Democrat Eric Gisler has won the seat, which was previously held by a Republican who resigned this fall.

This is a red territory: Trump won the district by 13% in 2024.

OK, here's where we're at in GA:

—Ruby red Oconee County is confirming that it's all done.
—The Republican is up by 345 votes overall.
—Super-blue Athens is done with early vote *and* with 3/10 Election Day precincts, with the Dem up 82% to 17% there so far. Can he net 346 votes here?

Update: Guest, the Republican, has zoomed ahead by 3%, or 400 votes.

This is due to red Oconee County dropping a big part of what it has left. Can blue Athens close the gap?

(To be honest, I'm unusually confused by how Georgia's SoS website is presenting the results, so not 100% sure what's left.)

In the Georgia legislative special that Democrats are hoping to flip tonight, things remain quite tight:

Democrat Eric Gisler is currently ahead of Republican Dutch Guest by 2.5%, or 215 votes. The Election Day vote continues to be counted.

Remember when people said that his supporters weren't racist.... or that racism wasn't "salient" to understanding them.
Trump: "Ilhan Omar, whatever the hell her name is. With her little turban. I love her. She comes in, does nothing but bitch ... we ought to get her the hell out ... she's here illegally."
