This is corruption.

In 1854, Deaf Americans built the Gallaudet Monument, funded entirely by Deaf contributors. It honored Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, founder of the first US Deaf school, and—through attendee records—left rare evidence of marriages, migrations & the growth of ASL.
