Happy Thanksgiving, Bluesky friends who celebrate!

Best time to do touristy things. San Francisco’s Pier 39 was as empty as I’ve ever seen.

That is absolutely amazing. Fondant isn’t as easy to work. Or maybe that’s just me.
Today's National Cake Day, so spotlighting the work of renowned Chinese cake artist Zhou Yi, who combines Chinese art, traditional miansu (dough sculpture) and Western sculpture techniques, to create these breathtaking fondant designs. The one of the right is called "Nine Tails". 1/

Two days ago, there were winds, and rain, and dark skies.

Today?

Good morning! OK, I’ll bite~

Interior designer: Please refer to the plans, placement, lighting details, and elevations as designed. Do we really need another client meeting for this?

Copyeditor: In the previous chapter the cup was full, but we didn't see anyone drink from it. Is it being only half full now deliberate?

Also, the ability to see posts from all over the world rather than area-centric is great. I hadn’t realized how much I missed it.
Others have noted it but I will too: The big reason Bluesky is so hot right now is that the people who add value to social media - the frequent posters in specific fields - are here now, talking to each other and creating the "spectator value" that draws users and attention.
Twitter’s heir apparent isn’t X or Threads — it’s Bluesky

AI is one of those things that no one actually wanted except the people who don’t want humans to work.

It’s about as useful as Wifi on appliances and I don’t think we’ve fully seen the dangers yet.
Researchers say an AI-powered transcription tool used in hospitals invents things no one ever said

“[Whisper] is prone to making up chunks of text or even entire sentences…some of the invented text [hallucinations] can include racial commentary, violent rhetoric & even imagined medical treatments”
Researchers say an AI-powered transcription tool used in hospitals invents things no one ever said
Whisper is a popular transcription tool powered by artificial intelligence, but it has a major flaw. It makes things up that were never said.

Me, growing up in B.C.: “My umbrellas never leave my hand. I have 2 in my car, 5 in my house, 1 at the office and another 12 with friends. Which color do you want?”

Me, after living in Northern California for years: “I know I have an umbrella around here somewhere… “

Good morning, sky friends!

I didn’t realize how tentative I’d become to engage online when I paused on commenting on a great food dish here.

I deleted Twitter last night.

Enjoying normal conversations once again. You?

Tonight there will be a Blue Supermoon at 9:35 ET

The moon will appear about 8% larger than a normal full moon and 15% brighter than a normal full moon.

The next one won't be until January 2037. Keep any eye out tonight!

I’m glad that @cdnhistoryehx.bsky.social came over from Twitter. A little quirky, a lot interesting, and a chance to get to know your neighbo(u)rs.
On this day in 1882, The Sherlock Holmes of Saskatchewan, Frances Gertrude McGill, was born.
She went on to influence the development of forensic pathology and solved several unsolved crimes.
Let's learn more about her :)

This. So much this.
Folks, I'm seeing a rise in bots/trolls in my replies, so if/when you see them, remember:

1. Don't engage with them;
2. When I see them I'll block them, and then their comments will disappear forever;
3. You can block them too if you want, obviously.

They want attention. Disappoint them.

Still taking a little while to get used to this site. However, happily buried in writers, astrology, weird science, cats, and plague historians. How much better can it get?
