I think someone should write a new Christmas Carol, but instead of it being a single rich white grumpy man it focuses on how every lawmaker and executive consigning their citizens to illness and poverty is sent to live for a year in the shoes of the least off citizens in their country.

Democrats are in a primarying mood, and these 128 House members should be *real* concerned right now.

What are the doctrinal and institutional limitations for why apostles of the LDS Church can't have emeritus status?

I can't help but wonder if Pres. Eyring and the others that are chair bound would be happier if they could have an advisory role and stay home or with family in comfort.

Journalists who frame what's happening in Washington as Republicans vs. Democrats instead of fascism vs. democracy are missing the most important story of their lives.

We used to build open web and open protocols, we still use them today. Then came the wall garden networks and highjacked our attention and data, with free junk.
I believe open platforms and protocols are the future. They have to be.

What a wild day, I hope these 4 years are full of light and optimism when so much seems dark and dreary.

My two degrees in physics were a valuable experience at BYU. I had professors sometimes mention how their beliefs and knowledge about science worked hand in hand, and that felt like the right balance. I'm grateful I finished my grad degree in 2020. It'd be impossible for me to work at BYU as faculty
I had a wonderful experience at BYU as an undergrad, with great mentors and friends who prepared me to be an academic. I also know there are lots of phenomenal faculty there now attempting to blend professionalism with the faith’s mission.

What Clark Gilbert and other admin are doing is tragic. /1
Dark days: New rules have BYU professors running scared
Under the LDS Church's new education boss, many BYU faculty members feel demeaned, disrespected, powerless — and afraid.

When did the LDS Church stop putting real pipe organs in chapels? The chapel I grew up with had a digital one, but the chapel I'm visiting has a beautiful pipe organ. It makes such a difference.

Really enjoyed my annual rewatch of The Muppets Christmas Carol. It is always a delight watching these characters interact with such a serious Scrooge.

Interesting new introduction, but keep in mind that this isn't replacing the "Title Page" or "official" introduction that members of the faith are familiar with. This is an introduction for missionary purposes since it's only on the "Book of Mormon" app that people can download separately.
Wow. The new intro completely eliminates the previous references to Nephites, Lamanites, American Indians and any hint of civilizations related to ancient America. The only reference to America is a “record was buried in a hillside… on the North American continent.”

The Stormlight Archive is quickly becoming one of my favorite series of all media/literature I've consumed. Way of Kings was great, and I'm really enjoying Words of Radiance! Wish I had gotten into the series sooner.

Yeah, give us better alternative transportation. I like driving a lot, but it's been proven time and time again that more lanes doesn't solve traffic problems. And Utah really needs to consider pollution issues.
Tribune editorial: The Utah Legislature should deny funding for the I-15 expansion project and instead put that $3.7 billion toward alternative transportation options like commuter and light rail, express bus service and more tolls on the highway.
Tribune editorial: Giant price hike is the excuse the Utah Legislature needs to cancel I-15 expansion project
“The plan to widen I-15 through Salt Lake City is a textbook example of how to make things worse by doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result,” writes the editorial board.

Went to the gym this morning, only five minutes away and suddenly there was snow stuck to the ground. It always amazes me how even a small amount of elevation change affects stuff like this.

I think about stuff like this constantly. How many people actually learned any lessons?
Sorry but all the fables and fairy tales I read as a kid led me to believe people would be learning WAY more lessons than they actually do

The thing I'm most concerned about is how big of a mess the next several generations will have to clean up after all of the political problems we're facing.

Seeing all of these administration picks honestly makes me sick and I sure do hope there isn't as much destruction as my anxiety supposes.
