Big 🧵time!

Lets talk about my new friend, the Konami Python.

It's kinda the odd duck of the family. The middle child between the Konami Viper and the Konami Python 2. The system was a short lived platform.
The past week the subscription button on youtube has been broken, and now they moved where it is so that the shorts button on the side bar is where the old button was so I keep clicking it by accident

I'm sure this is entirely an accident and not some scheme to artificially inflate some metrics...

The GR-524 nixie tube is an extremely rare symbol tube made by Rodan-Okaya of Japan. The tube shows the days of the week in abbreviated Kanji.

At a HardOff I caught a glimpse of an oldschool Japanese mechanical typewriter. The Nippon Type PanWriter types in 3 colours and somehow impacts one of the over 2300 glyphs onto the paper after the user manually slides over the rows & columns and presses down to type it. (Zoom in for the details)

I liked complicated systems and in hs I had to pick mechanics or computers and I picked computers

I’m still proud of my first year mechanics course where we tore down and inventoried a lawn mower engine. We were graded on how long it ran after assembly and ours was the only one that didn’t stop.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

“Book” arrived!
November 19, 2025 at 12:49 AM
I ordered a FireWire architecture book which for some reason is out of print now so had to settle with a used copy from Amazon.

Apparently whoever keyed this into the database simply titled the book as "Book" so now I have these omninous messages in my inbox.

G'AIME by Tassei Denki. Lightgun game peripheral/console that allows you to use a #lightgun on non-CRT TVs. So beamers too. Only downside is that it only comes with 4 games and it doesn't seem it will allow expansions. The guns use a camera and "AI". Real AI or just so they put it on the box? #namco

Some good news, even if a bit boring!

An anon with an early P1 game was nice enough to dump their memory card dongle.

Their decrypted dongle, mine and mame all match. The date range these dumps cover makes me fairly confident that there is only one konami dongle with the possible exception of...
Stay tuned as now the real work begins. In the mean time, if anyone is sitting on Konami Python games please reach out, thanks to hard work from @el-isra-ps2dev.bsky.social it's easy and cheap to get proper dumps of this hardware now and we are seriously lacking in archived data.

do you think you would be better or worse at surviving outdoors than someone 3000 years ago? For me I think better because I watched a lot of youtube where a guy pretends to live outside

Found a local retailer that was fire selling FireWire cables.

They all were only 25 cents each but I bought these ones because of the dogs on it

In a sick twist of fate my period-correct FireWire cables are bad and I have to jiggle them the right way to avoid resetting the FireWire bus. Back to waiting for more cables 🫠🫠🫠

Anyway, long story short I think it’s finally in a workable position, so I’ll be speeding and driving without a seatbelt in cross country Canada while I wait for more FireWire cables to arrive

I’m never buying a computer from an era before usb boot again. The number of dvd-r coasters I’ve produced is embarrassing

Weirdly nostalgic though to start an operating system install and then sleeping to check on the install in the morning because it’s already been two hours and I’m tired

Oh yeah, now we’re gaming.

The multiple hard-crashes I’ve experienced are authentic to my computer lab memories, gotta love Mac OS 9
