there's so much at stake that's abstracted and beyond comprehension. it's hard to explain why art is not only important but vital without coming off as hysterical and dramatic. but the honest truth is where there's creativity there's connection and good health and joy. it has to be protected.

I get asked a lot how to improve drawing skills and my advice has always been:

- learn 1p, 2p, 3p grids & how to use them. 98% of the time why artists get stuck is bc they're guessing at perspective

- get in the habit of completing full body poses. get used to thinking what the whole body is doing

Love seeing people join Bsky and deciding to forgo their Twitter accts, don’t get me wrong.

But I’ve seen this pattern so many times - folks move over, feel discouraged about the reach/algorithm, and move back.

Please stick around this time, for longer than a month at least.

Underrated point of discussion with the AI + social media uproar is giving thanks to patrons of the arts, especially non-artists, who are willing to put in the effort to support artists at a time when it has never been easier or more normalized to do the opposite.

I don't typically (re)post nsfw on main, but this is an exception. A classy, romantic piece of phenomenal quality. I *highly* recommend Soranamae; their entire gallery of work is GORGEOUS!

Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

Poverty is a policy choice. Concentrated wealth is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. None of it is natural or inevitable. Remember: We have the power to build a system that serves the many, not the powerful few.

This thread is my experience.

Bluesky has a lot of flaws and the management is deeply venomous and need you shouting at them constantly and righteously (they deserve it), but so long as the tools to navigate a community safely remain in place and functional I'm a lot happier on the internet here
Ngl bsky might not be the best (esp bc of its ceos constantly fucking up) but the cleaning tools, esp the nuclear block, made the mindset here completely infertile ground for dogpiling and general hostility in interactions and just that makes it such an infinitely better place than xitter. +

The best Christmas gift you can give right now is to support all the artists coming over here by liking, reposting, commenting.

Build them back up and finally set them free from their abusive X

In English we know it as “Carol of the Bells,” but the melody arises from a Ukrainian folk tradition of songs welcoming the new year and summoning the forces of nature to meet human labor and bring prosperity.
Do listen.
I wrote about the history here: snyder.substack.com/p/o-generous...
Another beautiful Shchedryk performance amidst ruins.

It was set in what used to be a DTEK thermal power plant — now destroyed by russia.

The contrast between russia’s destructive nature and the Ukrainian will to create beauty even in the darkest times is palpable.

Keep thinking about this term "pre-digested" that Kojima used to describe art that's instantly gratifying. And how it's better when people grow to love something instead.

I've gravitated, as player and designer, toward the latter, but that term "pre-digested" is new and feels very strong.
