French PM Lecornu resigning after 13 hours now makes the Lecornu the shortest length to measure political time. For those of you using old measures this is 1/18 of a Scaramucci or about 1.2% of a Truss

I agree. Illegal situations can stand for a very long time. What I find interesting though is that the long duration of the established facts on the ground in Northern Cyprus has *not* led to recognition and legalization, and eg naive Brits who try to invest there still get caught up in litigation.

… investment and anyone who has bought real estate in Northern Cyprus has found themselves sued by the legal, dispossessed owners. Mere physical occupation without recognised legal sovereignty may give you quite limited control in practice and may well open your citizens to foreign litigation. 2/2

A quick thought on one small but important way western states recognising Palestine is not merely a symbolic gesture. The relevant comparison is the illegal Turkish occupation of Northern Cyprus. This is entirely unrecognised by any state but Türkiye. As a consequence there’s no inbound 1/2

Academic selfie: very pleased with my new trouser and waistcoat set. Made from fabric I found at Weft and Warp and run up by Hoa Lu tailoring, two fine Canberra businesses.

In fairness, the average quality of housing throughout Australia is pretty terrible from a heat efficiency point of view. But Sydney is where I’ve noticed it most.

Sydney has to be one of the few places I’ve lived where the climate was so benevolent that you seldom needed an overcoat outdoors, but the housing stock was so terrible that you frequently wanted one indoors.

For very important reasons what the IDF did was not piracy (as that would absolve Israel of responsibility by saying the people involved were mutineers). It was unlawful for so many reasons (see Called to the Bar ep on the last flotilla interdiction) but not piracy

“Professor Guilfoyle what did you mean when you wrote: cabbage feta dill jasmine rice?”

“I meant a tasty and delicious salad.”

As my first mentor in litigation put it – never commit anything to writing you are not prepared to read out under oath in court.

I can see that my journey into university middle management is going to replace being a slave to email with being a slave to messaging in Teams …
