A couple of SES undergrad and grad classes have recently ventured to the San Juan Mountains in Colorado to learn about fundamental geological processes that have shaped this spectacular range. The fall foliage wasn't bad either :)

New paper alert! New research from former NAU PhD student Emerson Lynch, SES Prof @rengellia.bsky.social , and colleagues demonstrates that some upper plate faults in the Cascadia subduction zone are very active, with important earthquake hazards implications. Check it out! #nau_geology

🌍The Beaufort Range fault is ACTIVE!
This right-lateral oblique Beaufort Range faulting occurs >100 km farther North than previously documented faults in the Cascadia forearc.

NAU SES scientists just finished 11 glorious days of lake coring and glacial geologic mapping around Turquoise Lake in Lake Clark National Park, western Alaska Range. Good weather, hard work, and epic landscapes => an unforgettable field season. #NAU_geology, #NAU_environsci, #NAU_climate

Myself, @kdmorell.bsky.social, @djshillington.bsky.social, and Rob Witter (USGS) used an SSA community grant to host an Alaska Subduction Zone workshop in conjunction with a USGS meeting in January. The community grants are a great option if you're looking to fund a workshop/training. ⚒️

The budget bill passed by the house would dramatically increase the national debt because huge tax breaks for the wealthy will cost much more than 'savings' from cuts to essential programs Let's hope the senate has the sense to fix this.

🎉Thank you National Science Foundation, for all the #NSFfunded #seismological science you support, including the SAGE and GAGE facilities operated by @earthscope.org. Our current understanding of #earthquakes, #volcanoes and #geodesy research would not be possible without you. ⚒️ 🧪

AGU has joined a lawsuit challenging the firing of probationary employees at federal agencies.

These actions weaken science, harm public health & the environment, and threaten national security. 🧵 #StandWithScience
