Labeling AI as “automation” or “improving conditions” is such a grand euphemism. It’s not like LLMs are fixing our HVAC, mining the rare earths, or sewing garments. It’s keeping people with easy jobs from having to think as much and types fast. It’s not improving conditions anywhere.

But even for code, where there seems to be much more utility, the price for using it is much higher than people are willing to admit. And hey, there is no ethical consumption under capitalism. But that isn't an argument to just ignore the cost entirely -- it's the opposite.
