Any risk we expect a second-grader to accept by going to school should be expected of the rich and powerful as well.

Hanging onto my 12 Mini as long as it keeps working because I want a phone that actually fits in my pocket.

I literally switched from a decade of Android and Pixel phones to iOS JUST for the 13 Mini. I bought it very shortly before it was entirely discontinued because the size is just soooo perfect.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again:

The real villain in Jaws isn’t the shark, it’s a capitalistic mayor that values profit over people!

I had an invertebrate zoology professor in undergrad who called chaetognaths “the great white shark of the plankton.”

WOW.. Photographer David Fleetham captured this stunning shot of an arrow worm or chaetognath in the process of devouring a larval fish! From Yap, Micronesia, his website www.davidfleetham.com #wormwednesday

"The strength of WHOI's science is in its people."

It was true in the time of our first director, Henry Bigelow—and it's true today. We wouldn't be leaders in ocean science + engineering without our dedicated + talented staff.

Ritter R8-Singlecut Concept “Sound of the Deep”
Ritter makes the wildest basses I've ever seen, and I just found a real doozy. The R8-Singlecut Concept “Sound of the Deep” is a fretless 6-string bass with a single cutaway. The fingerboard is made out of acrylic, and has sharks, stingrays, sea turtles, and other aquatic animals painted on it. The rest of the bass is painted blue and has no visible hardware besides the 6 saddles. The controls for the piezo pickup are on the back of the body, and the tuning pegs are even hidden behind the headstock.

Rhode Island: 9/10

Simple imagery, interesting shape, anchors make sense. Even the word on it is tolerable.

Not really any for strictly freshwater, but I know some folks working on anadromous species if that fits within the scope of the survey.

Went to the curry fest in Miami tonight. In a bathroom stall someone had drawn a hate symbol. I managed to get it out w/ soap. But outside ppl were trying food from all over the world, laughing & dancing together. I believe one of these will win & it’s not the one hiding in the toilet like a bitch.

Who’s on this panel and how they’re nominated/appointed are going to be the main determinants of how useful it is. Will it be made up of well-qualified and vetted scientists and stakeholders or a handful of Don Jr.’s fishing buddies?

Binged All The Sharks yesterday and really enjoyed it! It had a really nice focus on biodiversity and set much better examples of how to interact with wildlife than that other recent Netflix shark show.
