NEW: I spoke to clergy and faith leaders who've joined protests at the Chicago-area ICE facility.

Three say they've been shot with pepper balls, sometimes while praying.

All say ICE is also violating their religious freedom, and one is arguing it in court. religionnews.com/2025/10/07/i...
Religious protesters say ICE threatens religious freedom in Chicago
(RNS) — Despite potential danger, religious leaders and faith activists have been a visible presence at Chicago-area ICE protests, some waving signs with slogans such as ‘Love thy neighbor’ and ‘Who w...

I have been saying for a few years now that people really need to take a seriously long look at the center of that venn diagram where the circles are marked "AI Culture" and "Disregard For/Violation Of Consent." The whole "AI Actress" situation is more of why.

I spoke to a Venezuelan woman who was arrested in this raid and later released with her 4yo son. She said agents broke down their door, pointed guns at them and made sexualized remarks about Venezuelan women. When she returned to her apartment it was boarded up and all her possessions were gone.

Weaponized gratitude is a key tool in the abuser's toolkit. The goal is to convince the victim that they owe the abuser so much, they should feel guilty for wanting to complain.
Tweet from the VP:
Joy Reid has had such a good life in this country. It's been
overwhelmingly kind and gracious to her. She is far wealthier than most.
Yet she oozes with contempt.
My honest, non-trolling advice to Joy Reid is that you'd be a much
happier person if you showed a little gratitude

How do we call on others to re-engage or engage in general? We can’t keep silent to our family, friends and community either.

It’s disturbing to me, when I say to otherwise kind, intelligent, aware people, “wow, bad shit is happening”, and they reply to me, “Oh you have to not watch the news. Don’t read the papers! Just don’t think about it.”

And NO that is a TERRIBLE answer. That’s exactly how we got here to begin with.

According to eyewitnesses, armed ICE agents dragged kids out of their beds in the middle of the night, zip tied them and put them in rented vans while raiding an * entire apartment building* on the South Side of Chicago.

NEW: Federal workers are being told to blame Democrats for the shutdown. Workers at one agency were given unhinged, partisan language to use when setting out-of-office replies, and pop up banners across different agencies blame Democrats too.

As immigration agents have escalated their tactics, US citizens, many of them Latino men, have been stopped and in some cases taken into custody by law enforcement officers. Allison, Jenny and I took a closer look at the encounters. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/29/u...

There are multiple forms of fascism/fascist countries, and probably some that have not happened yet. The menu is bigger than two choices. It still shouldn't be complicated, but studying civics, public policy, democracy and elections/voters tells me it is. This has happened over decades, not years.

Look, none of this shit is complicated.

Trump's made it real simple, because he's real simple. Either you want the USA to turn into a stupider, gaudier version of Putin's Russia or you don't.

That's your whole menu. Choose wisely, Grasshopper.

For the record, the local police had to arrive to free the girl from … the federal police.

This is horrific. It’s undeniable that we will need trials for ICE officials and officers after all this.

“Leominster police arrived at the scene, recovered the child and returned her to the family.”

Cata “Xochitl” is a DACA recipient and community organizer who immigration agents abducted at the airport.

She remains in detention despite an immigration judge terminating her case. Since her unjust detention, DHS has falsely claimed that DACA doesn’t protect Cata from detention and deportation.

That’s fair and prob true. But it’s like, guys, this isn’t a normal times kind of thing. It isn’t now and wasn’t then (just less so.) Plus an acquittal is at least better than him totally getting away with it, no? That’s my lens of analysis anyway 🤷🏽‍♂️ Got to meet the moment.
dominicarellano.bsky.social
Even so, why not arrest him and try anyway? Doing so and failing would at least bring it to light (esp if on video) and highlight the need to change the law.

🧵This is a serious use of force violation. The violent attack of this woman must be prosecuted by Chicago/Illinois for violation of state’s rights. I’m going to break this down. You see her blocking the ICE van. Agents violently push her to the ground. Then you see 1 guy target her & choke her.
