Red-banded Leafhoppers drink lots of sap and produce lots of waste fluid. They launch the fluid away from themselves and an interesting study showed that they use the surface tension of the droplet like a spring to launch droplets further. 🤓

Doratifera quadriguttata - Four-spotted Cup Moth

An interesting looking #caterpillar. These guys can sting, they protrude red stinging hairs from four of the spots along the back when they’re disturbed.

Tank is *almost* done! Dug around in boxes and found Great Big Giant faux plant - lots of nice hidey places now. Bought a 2nd small filter and ordered a better aerator stone.

Guppies and Tetras and Mollies - oh my! Everyone's happy so far & water is *nearly* perfect. #becurious

!!!! THIS is incredibly cool
This is officially my horizontally longest image to date, depicting some of the earliest complex animals on the planet from 565 to 505 million years ago and how they changed over time.

Thank you to @egmitchell.bsky.social and Steve Pates for trusting me with this gargantuan task! #Art #SciArt

Love female Shovelers!

In the fall there was one in Pine Lake, and it was instructive figuring out which one was the Shoveler among all the female Mallards. The Shoveler was just a little smaller, with whiter pale feather markings (well and then of course you'd eventually see that giant bill!).
