I am not sure who is funnier @elencaldecott.bsky.social or @gwillow.me but you can see why there's competition in this post. I wish there was a snort-out-loud emoji

Are these plovers vain, enjoying their reflections and strutting the beach? They pause, extend a leg, and worry the sand. A circle around their forefoot looks like jiggling jello for an instant until they nab some tasty critter. Hard way to earn a living but no tariffs. #birds

Down by the river to update my bridge construction album. Waylaid by this Falcon. Wait for her to fly but 2 hrs in 18 inches of river side slush was enough. Once the sun had dipped I thought she might move, but she just stared me down...shuffled a bit now and again to get my hopes up. #birds

I do like a good #bird story. I had not known that a Killdeer was a plover. Hope this family picks a safer location next spring. #mainebirds

Watching the progress of another used book seller acquire and buy up inventory reminded me of this. It's hard to tell what will sell and when but it's always great to learn a thing or two along the way. #antiquarian #antiquarianbooks #antiquebooks #oldbooks #rarebooks #firstedition #firsteditions

The new #Androscoggin River bridge between #BrunswickMaine and #TopshamMaine is the 8th bridge here since about 1800. Replacing the 1932 WPA built Frank J. Wood bridge was not without controversy as many wanted to save the old bridge. Cold day to be riveting. Photos range from 11/23 to 1/15.

Savannah Sparrow and unfortunate grasshopper. Woodward Point preserve Brunswick, Maine, July 2022. It's a land trust property so they mow late in deference to these guys & bobolinks. #addbirder Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust, Maine Coast Heritage Trust, AgAllies

The book is definitely old & the photos new so there's that. Most viewed "books" page last 2 months. But the annual award goes to a pair of Longfellow pages. Nature & conservation, performances and sports outpace books posts. Hoping all my followers like it. #rarebooks #oldbooks

I hear there's a bird feed somewhere in the Bluesky. This hermit thrush was seen at the Skolfield Shores Preserve in Harpswell, Maine. It's a Harpswell Heritage Land Trust property.

My most read for 2024. A bit about our local land trust in Brunswick, Maine, farmland preservation paired up with a bit of historical preservation.
Meditations on a Mobile Home and a Clock Tower — Douglas Park Media
There’s a mobile home in town that —at dawn—is an object of beauty. For one thing it’s the yellow of an old Maine manse, a nearby stick built garage is painted the same yellow. For another it sits beh...
