For some time, it’s been apparent that we cannot meet the emissions reductions to keep warming under 1.5 C. Also, it’s only theoretically possible to meet the 2.0 C target. For political and economic reasons, we won’t meet that target either.
The goal of preventing temperatures from exceeding 1.5C is “deader than a doornail” as I told the Guardian (quoting James Hansen). We’ve simply waited too long to reduce global emissions, and now will firmly pass 1.5C in the next decade www.theguardian.com/...

Scientists say goal to keep world’s temperature rise below 1.5C is not going to happen despite talks at Cop29 in Baku

It’s almost like something has changed.
The Philippines have now been hit by four typhoons in the span of just 10 days.

Can't say I recall ever seeing this before.

I remember being criticized in elementary school about the use of the singular “they” for uncertain gender. I’m still annoyed.
The first known use of singular “they” is so old that not only does it pre-date singular “you,” it wasn’t even spelled with a “th”

When William and the Werewolf, in 1375 CE, used singular “they,” it was spelled with a Thorn

Has anyone else thought about this election as a variation on the trolley problem?

And the evil Presidential candidate ran on the slogan “Make America Great Again.”
Written in 1993. To be fair, Reagan also used the phrase - but creepy.
The Handmaid's Tale is a good book. But did you know that there's a book written by a Black woman about a post-apocalyptic Earth heavily affected by climate change and societal decline. The book was published in 1993, but is set in 2024 following a presidential election 👀 #BookSky #BlackBookSky

The point of bringing in Hegseth, Gaetz and Gabbard is to burn it all to the ground. Senate: You must recognize this and stop it.

They know that extinction is a bad thing, right?
…Right??
Trump’s top advisor says Trump has a mandate to assemble an “extinction level event.”

At this point in the history of the world, why would anyone be stunned at anything Trump would do as a FY to established interests?

Washington’s lobbyists are stunned Trump chose RFK Jr.
They’re holding their fire and hoping Senate allies will block his confirmation as HHS secretary.

RFKjr is truly a fruitcake.
A frustrating thing for me right now is the media narrative that RFK Jr is just an “anti-vaxxer” when he has said so many crazy things about other stuff over the years. We compiled 10 nutty clips on various topics, which still barely scratches the surface. open.substack.com/pub/meidasto...

You don’t bury an ethics report that would exonerate Trump’s pick.

You don’t skip FBI background checks unless his nominees have something to hide.

See what they’re doing? Please tell me you see what they’re doing.

Don’s garbage can is all of us.
Garbage can update.

The garbage can is still upset after being bullied. We decided a support snow person would be helpful. I also explain that it could snow tomorrow night. That brought a little excitement. So I think the can will be ok.

I supported Kristen Engel’s campaign. She’s an environmental attorney who made climate action her main campaign issue.
The Green Party vote was three times the margin she needed to win. Instead, we will have a MAGA Republican representative in her district.

Consolidation of power begins. Funny how it was okay for the Senate to block Presidential nominations from 2008 to 2016, but now it’s not okay.
