Keir Starmer comments about Reform are no more sincere than Wes Streeting saying trans people should be treated with 'respect and dignity'.

They are words meant for Labour supporters who don't really care about either 'issue' but want some nice things to point to.

Their actions tell you everything

Exactly. Since the last time Labour tried to introduce ID cards I warmed up to the idea after living in European countries where it is completely normal. But Labour are doing this for authoritarian reasons in the context of a serious assault on migrant and trans rights and it should be opposed

I am a citizen of a country with ID cards that also has a form of digital ID used to access government services online… it works really well and is very efficient.

Would I want the scheme being proposed by the UK government?

Hell no!

This was actually their strategy back in the 60s, supporting Race Relations legislation while simultaneously restricting the rights of Commonwealth citizens to live in the UK 🙄

The same bs they're spewing about autism and tylenol is the same bs they're spewing about trans people's healthcare. It's the exact same playbook and the fact that the media can see through one and not the other is a damning indictment of how complicit they are in the attack on trans lives.

Is that why he’s banned gender-affirming care for young people?

Anyone who can’t see through the “free speech!” “Cancel culture!” Bullshit now - the whole project has been about amplifying bigotry & shutting up criticism, is utterly complicit - Gervais, Carr & all- the reason they have far right fans is not the quality of jokes but the quality of propaganda

My analysis about Elon Musk's "awkward surprise appearance" at a far-right rally in London is out now on @theconversation.com
I'm discussing how all this connects to the politics and economics of social media companies. Yes, it's about money and democracy.
Elon Musk’s speech to far-right rally should have us all thinking about the power social media companies hold over our democracies
The power of social media companies lies in your data.

think if you're broadly a centrist and were suuuuuper concerned about attacks on free speech from the left and so you decided to give the right a hearing then you need to realise you were taken for QUITE the ride (and don't really have anyone to blame but yourself)

Except this “material reality” you speak of does not exist, nor is there any one thing that so-called “ordinary women” want - this whole thing is driven by a small minority of very committed anti-trans lobby groups, in alignment with the far right. Most people do not share their views
drcharlottegalpin.bsky.social
The only way this can be done is for random people to police who looks “feminine” enough to access women’s spaces, which is already happening and resulting in harassment of trans and cis folk alike. Why more cis women aren’t up in arms about this is beyond me
apowelllaw.bsky.social
The guidance is clearly unworkable as there is no way that any organisation can ensure spaces are only accessible on the basis of sex assigned at birth without engaging in activities which, irrespective of the Supreme Court Decision in For Women Scotland, remain unlawful.

The EHRC guidance is unworkable for business.

Signatories include Ben & Jerry's, Lush, Lucy & Yak and hundreds of large and small businesses across the country

Some big news: the University of Birmingham is launching a new MA in Gender & Sexuality. It's interdisciplinary, with a focus on combining theory & practice. It's going to be amazing. I'm convening it: message or email with questions. www.birmingham.ac.uk/study/postgr... @unibirmingham.bsky.social

Yeah exactly. It seems like as they have come under pressure for pandering to the far right, and it is clear that it has not and will not work to limit support for Reform, they have just doubled down. Which makes me think the same ideology is at the heart of the govt

The common sense meaning should make this Elon Musk's "rivers of blood" moment

Though I think he goes further than Enoch Powell in a couple of important ways

Elon Musk spoke by video to Tommy Robinson's anti-immigrant rally in the UK today.

"You're in a fundamental situation here where, whether you choose violence or not, violence is coming to you," said Musk. "You either fight back or you die."

Deeply disturbed to see today's 'Unite the Kingdom' march in London with 100,000+ attendees.

This was likely the largest far-right protest in British history and was led by Tommy Robinson and addressed by Elon Musk.

The far right are emboldened like never before. But, here's the good news... 🧵

100,000 trans people & allies march through London without threatening or making anyone feel like it is a no-go area.

Media: crickets.

100,000 fascists & Nazis march through London threatening violence & making anyone not cishet & white feel it is a no-go area.

Media: wall-to-wall live coverage.
