Just extraordinary to witness this nature-hating government sabotaging Labour’s own legacy. And for absolutely no reason: nature protection isn’t blocking development - it’s a necessary prerequisite for it (& for everything else, come to that…)
Plans to weaken protections for national parks will have ‘disastrous consequences’ say green groups
Exclusive: Letter from 170-plus organisations calls on government to drop proposed changes to planning law

Very sad to hear this, had a lovely chat with him about art and the brain for his Almanac podcast, and he became a real champion for our CúChulainn books. A fascinating, interested and kind soul, RIP a chara

What did one context say to the other when it saw the archaeologist coming? ‘Quick, act natural’!

Coom wedge tomb, nr #Ballinskelligs #CountyKerry #RepublicofIreland (2025).
Handy for the road (despite an electric fence) and in an absolutely beautiful setting with views across Ballinskelligs Bay towards Waterville.

🏺
A beautiful sunny September day with blue skies, fluffy clouds and strong shadows. The tomb is set in rough pasture, and photographed from the unusual open antechamber or portico end, with the large capstone and chamber visible beyond.

The southern row of Les Alignements du Moulin, Sainte-Just in Brittany. Great place to visit - this stone row just one of many megalithic sites on Les Landes de Cojoux. #StandingStoneSunday
A cloudy by blue sky provides a background for several tall standing stones in alignment. The stones are grey in colour.

Three large pecked stones, two uprights and a lintel, surround four similar but smaller stones, through which a rectangular opening or niche can be seen.

Labby Rock Portal Tomb • Sligo • c.3500BC

This distinctive dolmen is a place steeped in myth and legend. Its name Labby derives from the Irish 'leaba', as it is another location where Gráinne and Diarmuid slept as they fled from Fionn mac Cumhaill.

Anyone who buys clothes from Tesco, M&S, Dunnes or Penneys/Primark (Dunnes in particular) should watch @rte.ie Primetime's meticulously researched expose of forced labour in cotton production in China and how it gets into Irish and UK shops. You'll find it on RTE player.

The southern stone of the Devil's Arrows 👿 - the 2nd tallest standing stone in the British Isles.

Nobody knows how old it is, but it probably dates to the Neolithic, so time time between 4000 and 2500 BC...

Love that the @nmireland.bsky.social are at the #ploughing. Farmers are often really important custodians of heritage in Ireland, as well as knowing a huge amount about field names, local histories, & climate histories. #speirgorm
