A lot of us gotta go…

Good luck with that.

I’m grateful for the clarification.

I also wouldn’t want to rely on how this 👇🏻 might be interpreted either now or in the future.

It angers me that this door has been opened at all.

And sweeping aside the most significant challenge of our - or indeed any - generation, he dismisses the climate catastrophe that has begun in half a paragraph.

And our own dear leaders applauded him.

We are so … what’s the word…?

Oh wow!

I put ‘intern’ into the search box to see if anything appears for the 100s of Kitchener refugees who were deported for internment to Canada in summer 1940

A stack of early hits for a POW camp at Mürren, Sw - where we skied for years.

Wasn’t expecting that! No idea there were POWs there

Did you see the figures on the post about the detentions today, Jo? 👇🏻

If late night quick maths works - it’s slightly more than one in a thousand, I think - around 0.11% of the entire population.

Lord of the Flies

There is no rescue at the end; no civility to return to.

The officer returns the boys to a world that has killed children & used the atom bomb.

The “Coral Island” ref acknowledges that history repeats horrors thru centuries & down generations.

Yet so many read this as a rescue.

February was the month that Kitchener Camp first opened its gates to rescue 4,000 German Jews to Britain in 1939.

Occasionally, dad was in Kitchener, mum on a domestic service visa, and child on the Kindertransport - though this was rare.

Quick translation needed for me 😁 👇🏻

Yes, that’ll be chilly for sitting in at home, especially if you’re not used to it. I’d be cold at that too.

And 0 outside must be cold for Florida, I’d guess. Not great when presumably houses aren’t built for it 😕

I’m sorry to hear it.

Xan Brooks review of That Movie:

“Ratner’s film plays like a gilded trash remake of Glazer’s Zone of Interest in which a button-eyed Cinderella points at gold baubles & designer dresses, cunningly distracting us while her husband & his cronies dismantle the Constitution & asset-strip the fed govt”

People

Every time you link to right-wing trash here, someone - multiple people - will click on it.

For every click, it’s that bit more worth the rag’s while to publish more of what is free advertising.

Can we think beyond Likes and try to come together to perhaps *not* have a Farage govt.

Our setter girl didn’t sleep that way but Charlie did.

It’s the way the front paws then just fold down that gets me… 😁

Ours died years ago, but anyone out with a setter always ends up with me pretty much on the end of the lead as well. Just wonderful pups.

An observation on Kitchener…

Everywhere I take the exhibition & talks, the room is full with people who want to learn about these events

I speak to audiences that are Jewish, that have Kitchener relatives, & audiences with no religious or refugee connection

People want to know about this history

A last post #HMD2026

Thank you to the crowd who turned out on a dark cold January night to hear about the Kitchener camp rescue in 1939

What a warm, interesting, friendly set of people

It was nerve-wracking but I had a great evening with many thoughtful follow-ups.

Thanks so much Pinner shul🙏
