I was just telling someone that I just don’t have the spirit this year. It’s the first time in 25 years I didn’t do Christmas cards. I live in the DC area and we were hit hard with the government layoffs.

The christmas lights in my suburbs are few and far between. Some blocks might have two or three houses and some have none. Never seen it so scarce. Definitely less Christmas spirit among my local population.

I was just at a Target, and then a smaller, upscale clothing store nearby (Upper East Side of Manhattan). Both were mostly empty, the smaller store about to close. This was at 3:30 in the afternoon. Of Christmas Eve. Not encouraging.

Anyway, if you want to help families be able to afford to eat this holiday season and beyond, consider making a regular cash donation to your local food bank.

And if you’re in Chicago, bring by your spare winter gear, books, toiletries, and supplies! We could use them in our mutual aid shelves.

And I’m not pro-commercializing the shit out of holidays.

I just think it’s probably a recession indicator when even corporations are ditching significant sales and events so they can squeeze every penny out of us, rather than their usual song-and-dance every December.

Maybe I’m imagining it idk

THIS IS HOW TO DO IT!

Just got this thank you email from @katmabu.bsky.social for donating to her campaign - and she asks folks to donate to donate to mutual aid groups in the area!

THIS is what I've been saying for years that political campaigns should be doing! Actually HELP people RIGHT NOW!
