They’d really hate Shakespeare if he’d emerged today. And he’s from Birmingham

Calling English a 'rip-off degree' is one of the most blatant exhibitions of personal barbarism I've ever seen. You've demonstrated nothing but the poverty of your own mind.

I do too. I haven’t read it since I was 14 and it has taken on a whole new realm of meaning for me in the context of psychology and mental health

Excited to release the conference programme for 'Ireland and the American Revolution: 250th Anniversary Perspectives'. There are only a few tickets left, so if you would like to attend I would suggest getting one as soon as possible. Attendance is free but booking is essential.

RIP Patricia Routledge, ever magnificent and creator of some of the greatest characters such as Kitty and, of course, Hyacinth. “Slow down past no. 62, dear, I want them to see my hat.”

The thing that human beings seem to value above (almost) all else is other human beings paying attention to them. Put that in your algorithm and smoke it.

A student told me Thursday that another prof had told the class to post their work into an AI LLM, to be graded and commented on by the AI. The other students were all offended. Which is good. They should be offended.

Happy Birthday to me. 63 years old today. This past year has been momentous for me, as I finally confronted and overcame a fear that has stood in my way for 25 years. Singing live again has been a joy these last few months. 1/2

I’m well aware that this is hardly an original observation at this point but it continues to irk me, nevertheless.

“Two migrants have died crossing the channel” (BBC News). it’s telling that two fellow human beings who lost their lives aren’t even described as “people“.
Language matters and it contributes to the process of dehumanisation that we’re seeing every day.
