It is about time that we replace “to google” with a catchier version of “to chat with AI”. Then again, we have not been able to do anything even close with “phone”, either.

When more than 3.5% of the population engage in political protest, autocratic regimes can typically not keep themselves in power. This rule was found by political scientist Erica Chenoweth.

If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies: "We don’t have the faintest idea what a generalized AI might want, except that it will want to expand in the most mindless, turbo-capitalist way."

Minutes after Mr. Kirk’s widow, Erika, urged the crowd to love their enemies as her husband did, Mr. Trump said he could not agree. “I hate my opponent and I don’t want the best for them,” he said, adding “Sorry Erika.”

I hope this will be repeated everywhere.

Newburgh-Beacon Bridge. I'm trying to figure out how, when running over it, do I know I've reached the middle.

That nagging disappointment when running for the first time after a while, and noticing how it’s become more difficult than it ever was, because I’m older than I ever was, and no matter how much I refuse to age, I do – 1/

It’s the week before classes start at Columbia, and judging from what’s going on in my building, nothing is wrong with the world. It’s all full with Asian students who come here to get something that must be shining far to lure them, something they cannot get at home, or so their parents believe.

Bolton says that the verdict of history about Trump will be devastating. That assumes that in history, in the long run, the accidents of humanity are no more than that: accidents. But what if history itself is contaminated? 1/

8/12 I’d rather not know how fast a six- or ten-year-old could learn these things on the piano that take me weeks. J says I’m so much more disciplined and thorough about it than a child, but I don’t see why this would precisely balance my slower learning. It does not.

While my son and I were out watching Jurassic Park, my daughter and wife grabbed some AI music software and generated a whole bunch of songs about our family, hilarious and hitting the nail on the head in all sorts of genres, from Metallica to 80s synth pop.

Rick Beato says that AI music is bad because a) the person prompting the AI is not doing any actual work, and b) the AI is not doing any actual work, it just takes other people’s ideas and creates songs out of them. The counter-argument is that AI does what every musician does: learn from others.
