This arrived yesterday, and I started watching it, so as a fun project, I thought it'd be interesting to do a small review of each episode as I watch them in order, since I've never seen all of them, and never in order!

I'll update this thread as I go.

Hopefully not a 5 year mission! #StarTrek

My favorite was NO END HOUSE.

That one really fucked me up.

The first episode is fucking ASTONISHING.

CANDLE COVE
(a favorite from the great creepypasta series that was CHANEL ZERO)
a skeleton face wearing a tricorn hat and a cape, with a bloody hook in the front and a couple of teeth

Listen. ONE of the reasons I rock with Dolly (Capricorn Gang) is because she’s always proven to me that integrity may cause you pain, but it will never be the reason you suffer. Which is not to say that suffering won’t come, but it’ll never be because you abandoned yourself. That’ll keep you going.

Maybe I'll enjoy it more this time.

It's by one of Danny McBride's frequent collaborators, and McBride has a small role in it, and they tend to do interesting, challenging, subversive stuff...this was over a decade ago now, so my opinion on this might have changed.

I think the thing that turned me off about the film is that in the end they treat it like it's an underdog story and he becomes a the hero he wants to be, but they make it clear throughout the film that he's a violent sociopath with delusions of grandeur, so it's...like...not a GOOD thing.
dthalliday.bsky.social
I DID really fucking laugh at the joke where he goes to see his therapist and describes this recurring dream he has were the world is engulfed in a black cancer of death, and he smiles, really satisfied with himself, and his therapist is fucking HORRIFIED because he's obviously a sociopath.

I'm still mad about both G.L.O.W. and SANTA CLARITA DIET being cancelled, because both were in their endgame and could have been wrapped up for a reasonable amount of money with a movie, and they just didn't fucking CARE. -___-

This was cheap, and I got it a few days ago.

I've seen OBSERVE AND REPORT (2009) previously, and I bounced off of it, but I think it's still an interesting film...Seth Rogan basically plays a comedy version of Travis Bickle, but much lower stakes.

While I've been sick, I found out that LG Channels has two channels that play anime all day; a CRUNCHYROLL one and another one that has, like, 4KIDS stuff on it.

It's pretty great when you're sick to just watch an endless marathon of LUPIN THE 3RD all day while you sleep! :D

I'll keep praying for Dolly anyways.

I just love her, is all.

If there was ONE PERSON on Earth that would never die, I'd want it to be Dolly.

Congratulations Ubisoft!
You've empowered the very people you seek to avoid to keep doing the shit that scared you in the first place.
dthalliday.bsky.social
Man...I love seeing you THRIVE like this!
dthalliday.bsky.social
Claudia Black would have been a PEAK Wonder Woman at one time. ;___;

She's still got the VOICE for it, tho! She's done a fair bit of voice acting.

We all know that the Eyes are the window to the Soul, but I think a lot of people underestimate how much CHARACTER a really distinct nose can bring to a character.

I'm not joking when I say that a nose can tell a story just as much as the eyes can.
cheryllynneaton.bsky.social
She draws good noses! Oh, I love a good nose in comics. Any time an artist gives Wonder Woman a strong nose, my heart swells.
dthalliday.bsky.social
He's literally perfect. He looks like he stepped off the page.
dthalliday.bsky.social
John Romita Jr. giving the Punisher that broken block nose is fantastic.
dthalliday.bsky.social
Yeah...that shit fuck! That's why I like @mikehawthorneart.bsky.social's Wonder Woman.

That classical Greek statue profile.

I can't wait for the TPB of this. It looks great!

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS.

Do not miss the final issue of the geopolitical space opera‘s inaugural arc; Free Planet #6 is the biggest, most explosive, dramatic and sexiest issue yet and it’s in comic shops NOW.

...become oddities mostly notorious for how they miss the mark...like SPAWN.

The sad thing is that SPAWN COULD have been GOOD! The elements are there! It's to bad they can't re-edit it into a more serviceable film.

Meanwhile...PUMPKINHEAD is nearly PERFECT.
dthalliday.bsky.social
This is why some low budget films end up as cult classic masterpieces...they swing outside their weight limit, ambitiously getting everything they can on screen, and it works because the director has a VISION and wants to tell a STORY, and people resonate with that...while other things...
dthalliday.bsky.social
All the other aspects of making a film...the LOOK of it, the effects, the acting...a first time director can make up for that by hiring good people; production design, costuming, effects, a good DP, good actors, etc etc. But if they don't CARE about telling a STORY...none of that shit will matter.
dthalliday.bsky.social
Watching PUMPKINHEAD after having watched SPAWN; both films directed by first time directors with heavy special effects backgrounds; I have come to the realization that the thing that makes the difference between a GOOD and a BAD film is if the director CARES about telling a story well.

I didn't know Mamdani's wife was a comics nerd! New York, you have to vote for him now because I need at least one person in comics to have good health insurance.
