Switched to Mastodon after Twitter got sold to the authoritarians. Not sure I'm thrilled about this site being owned by a slightly less insane weirdo (nor is it federated) but giving it a try.
Well, now we know where the money's going to come from to finance more than a trillion dollars in capex pledges. Because it ain't coming from revenue and it ain't coming from the magic kiting operation they have going with Oracle and Nvidia.
The CFO of OpenAI says the company wants a federal guarantee to make it easier to finance its massive investments in AI chips for data centers.

I'm not easily horrified. Spending decades in Silicon Valley tends to breed cynicism.

But this sociopathy is genuinely horrifying.

I encounter a lot of folks who’ve lived nowhere but cities or extremely luxe suburbs who simply have no idea how many American exurbs have atrophied to dog shit.

In 2025, my hometown has the all the affect of a neglected truck stop. Miserable.
the biggest force for rural resentment of cities in the last three decades is that cities got way better and the countryside got way worse.

The moves around Treasuries from both the Executive Branch and Congress could not be better designed to boost US adversaries' longstanding goal of undermining the US as an investment safe harbor.
THREAD

Markets are waking up to a provision buried in the House bill that could undermine the demand for US Treasuries at a time when bond markets are already jittery:

The result? The crowd losing its mind. 🔥

"Ass end of nowhere" does not *begin* to describe Collinsville. Building the needed roads and utilities alone would be colossal. There are plenty of far better located spots near freeways and train lines, including *actual* shipyards.

This is a play to get the Feds to subsidize California Forever.
The "California Forever" - techie city of the future thing, backed by a number of Silicon Valley billionaires - appears to be converging in a Trump direction.

From the end of this morning’s WP article on Trump’s economic plans everybody’s mad about.

1) Nobody — not even powerful rich CEOs — contradict Trump to his face because they’re afraid of being yelled at.

2) Their strategy is hoping they can survive this until he leaves.
