Exempt Historic Buildings, as defined by state law, from zoning as long as the use is generally consistent with it.

Unfortunately, apartments are banned here.

Due to outdated zoning, you can only build 1 and 2-family detached homes on the block bounded by 60th Ave, 60th Ln, 60th Rd, and 60th St.

The minimalist detailing is done really well imo but I can see how they look a little stark. I guess bay windows would add a lot to the cost.

New York housing!

(No, not housing in New York, it’s housing in York that is new.)

New housing built by the City of York, designed by Mikhail Riches. Passivhaus terraced homes, built with a timber frame, cellulose insulation. One of 5 schemes around York by the practice - who previously won the Stirling Prize for similar housing in Norwich.

Imagine if the areas around train stations in New York’s suburbs—in Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties—looked like this instead of giant parking lots

Not sure how people would react to winder stairs in New York though

The Toronto circulation core with scissor stairs is pretty similar to that required in NYC.

In addition we need space for a refuse chute.

This amounts to about one less bedroom per floor.

The circulation core of a mid-rise French apartment building is less than half the size of a mid-rise Canadian apartment building – 26.5 m^2 (285 sq. ft.) vs. 55 m^2 (592 sq. ft.)

A fireball lit up the sky across the Los Angeles area on Thursday night after an explosion at a Chevron refinery in El Segundo, alarming nearby residents who said it felt like an earthquake. The cause of the explosion was not clear. No injuries were reported. nyti.ms/42pPCaW

Let’s build mass timber, low carbon, 10+ story apartment buildings that meet the Passive House standards for comfort, health, and energy efficiency on the Upper East Side

we should let people build housing near it

1. More Americans work at the Cheesecake Factory than in the entire coal industry, and that won't change. It's because of automation, not snooty libs.

2. Coal energy is now more expensive than wind and solar.

3. So this means: higher energy prices, more pollution, no jobs benefit. Genius!

Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Fox: "We're announcing today expanded programs to help the American coal industry. We're helping it because for years it has been under assault. It was out of fashion with the chardonnay set in San Francisco, Boulder, and NYC ... coal just makes the world go round."

Some good news! These plug-in systems are all over Europe, whereas rooftop solar in the US is stupidly tied up in red tape, making it costly. All states should adopt this, like Utah did. And entirely nonpartisan—which is a weird thing to have to say about clean energy.
New Hampshire and Vermont could be next to introduce "balcony solar"
Cheap, plug-in systems that reduce people's bills without red tape are piquing bipartisan interest.

Yesterday, history happened at the UN: For the first time hundreds of orgs signed a global pledge declaring that healthy indoor air is a human right.

Healthy indoor air is a key tool for preventing pandemics, building climate resilience, and increasing health equity. We need it everywhere!

1,3,5, stand. If there’s only one open seat, I’ll only take it if it’s 5 though.
Now I don’t feel bad leaving 4 available since so many people prefer it.
