The first step to understanding impartiality is always recognising that you - like everyone - are not impartial. Acknowledging bias and subjectivity is the key.

Like the hardest kid at school, this is their only actual power. They’re not the strongest. They not the smartest. They don’t have the most supporters. They’re just willing to punch in the face, gouge eyes, break limbs, stamp on heads without hesitation and the fear that creates is the power.

But that is not enough. No.10 should never have been in a position to install Gibb in the first place. It shouldn't control the board membership, the DG appointment, or the purse strings. What's required is genuine independence for the BBC.

Feeding monsters never works in today's world, it makes them hungrier for more, increases their energy, they grow even more vicious and vengeful, envious of others' virtues. Do not feed the monsters.

See also the prison service, universities, local government, and the rest.

And the response of this government?

No - not to fund and run them better and prepare the ground for success.

But to join the baying mob. 2/2

If Lab had been honest on taxes & every other party hadn't been then Lab would have been hounded by the press. I can totally understand why they kept quiet. Problem is "trust" & going back on manifesto commitments which in UK seems impossible even tho Tories have done that be4 & got away with it

Unrealistic manifesto promises applied to just about every political party in 2024 (and before)
With Reform and the libdems being the least credible
Not sure if it's the voters who want the impossible (better public services and lower tax) or the parties not trusting the voters to understand
