I expected that the visuals would be great, but then I picked up a gun and was like "oh... OH I SEE HOW IT IS"

I didn't expect the guns to feel so good.

A reasonable amount, although I feel like I'm still always learning new things about it (and forgetting things lol)

Oh, hi!

I'm really slow so it'll almost certainly land before I get there yeah.

I've gotten so much joy out of just being in the world/environments you guys created that I almost forgot I'd be picking up a gun at some point.

To clarify, I wasn't aware that baking vertex lighting was even a thing.

For VERTEX lighting??? How badly did this game run???

My guess is that they just have a few different textures for specific lighting situations and place light sources to match the textures. Sort of the same as any other kind of texture variants

Gotcha, that's really cool!

To my eye the resolution of the tree shadow doesn't match up with the resolution of the gate, and Build didn't support any sort of light baking.

Examples from earlier in the game of how they faked realistic lighting by... just having textures with lighting painted on it. And it works really well???

I've also always loved the hand-carved sector shadows that Build games tended to use.

It's honestly pretty rough, and the Build Engine games tend to have a different gameplay style than Doom. Try Duke Nukem 3d or Blood out first imo

Oh yeah for sure

It has all sorts of really clever tricks with the textures and sectors to fake light and shadow too. Other Build games did similar things but RR has the most detail, to the point where certain areas almost look like they have lightmaps.

Redneck Rampage is so goofy because in terms of gunplay, enemy design, level layout, and polish, it's only a few steps above shovelware. But the visuals and atmosphere are STELLAR. It's the best looking classic Build game, easily.

For everyone asking, yup it's Redneck Rampage! I've been slowly playing through it using this mod, which makes it a much nicer experience to actually play
