I do! #30 Steve Carroll, 1980 Hobey Baker finalist back when it didn’t matter what division you played in. (Neal Broten won)

Probably 10-20% of the guests too.

Half my wedding party was met through hockey forums.

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

These are amazing throwbacks

@abkarlsson.bsky.social don’t you have one of these?

My favorite story from my trip to Alaska was when we were hiking and came across a park ranger on an ATV looking down into a valley win binoculars

Us: Something wrong?
PR: Guy too close to a sleeping bull moose. Need to know if we need to pick up a body.

Of all the examples he could have picked

Mike Johnson: "If you're a young, pregnant American citizen women who shows up in an ER and you get treated and they pay the hospital less for treating you than some illegal rabble rouser who came in from some South American country to do us harm, that is wrong."

We had a hybrid with regen brakes on a rental and it was magnificent.

I’m not entirely sure that’s true given but I don’t have any evidence to the contrary.

I suspect the increased weight-to-disc ratio of EVs is going to lead to faster wear. In contrast, a truck or SUV weighs more but has significantly larger brakes.

But you very well could be right.

Just to be clear here, doctors should earn a fair wage AND we should fix the structural issues with med schools such that doctors don’t need to take out an additional $250-$350k in loans to attend med school.

I also strongly suspect that tire manufacturers will get wise to this and adjust compounds to be more EV-friendly over time. Eventually we’ll find the right blends and design that offer weight capacity and longevity without giving up traction.

I think it was Pearkes who said that his EV that has a rear diff doesn’t chew through tires as fast. Apparently teslas don’t have one?

The only qualm I have is range. We love to do roadtrips and generally we do two trips of about 400 miles one way per year.

I think that’s where I still struggle with the idea. Especially since the location we love to travel doesn’t have much for EV infrastructure. So charges would take hours.

Just spitballing here what my maintenance items for ICE have been for 110k:

Engine oil x 10-11
ATF flush x 1
Rear diff x 2
Water pump, timing belt
Filters
Tires
Coming up on spark plugs and wires

Oddly haven’t had to do brakes yet.

So for EVs I would still have one filter, brakes, and tires.

i’d say the real killer feature of EVs is basically the lack of real maintenance costs.

One of the better ones I’ve seen. The subregions are very good

I’d keep the subregions the same but move the border of the Midwest-northeast to the west. It seems odd to lump in Wichita with Buffalo.

There is no reason you can’t have subregions stretch across regional borders.
williamhazen.bsky.social
This is the most accurate depiction of the Midwest to date. Wichita has always felt like the last Midwest city while also being the first plains city.

Do you trust engineers who design your bridges and cars? The don’t make $250k

So why should doctors?
dxmnkd316.bsky.social
Absolutely. I prefer NPs for the vast majority of times I go in.

Posting this here because I’ll be damned if someone blocks me to keep their disinformation alive after some very mild pushback.

Python 3.14 is out today! Here are my notes on the new release: simonwillison.net/2025/Oct/8/p...

If you're an open source library maintainer who supports all current Python releases this also means you can drop 3.9 support now and start depending on features from 3.10, like match/case
Python 3.14
This year's major Python version, Python 3.14, just made its first stable release! As usual the what's new in Python 3.14 document is the best place to get familiar with …
