USPS quietly changed its postmark rules — mail is no longer dated when you drop it off. The “official” date is when it hits automated sorting — sometimes days later

Which could have major implications for mail in voting — it’s a clever way to disenfranchise voters that’s going largely overlooked

Who said it? “The myth is deliberately cultivated that we are embarking on a new course not out of free will but because competition is spontaneously eliminated by technological changes which we can neither reverse nor should we wish to prevent.”

It’s not about making a coherent theological argument it’s about building a coherent ideological argument that American violence, as wielded by the Trump administration, is sacred. If violence is sacred, holy it also cannot be questioned. To do so is heretical, sacrilegious.

Inspired by an exchange here yesterday, I wrote up a short piece at CAMPAIGN TRAILS about an infamous Lee Atwater quotation that just about everyone gets wrong.
Southern Strategies
This week, I saw someone on social media trot out a notorious quote from Lee Atwater that's wildly misunderstood. I went back to dust off my old Twitter thread about it, but I found that a lot of the ...

“Every day, professional cultural commentary seems closer and closer to marketing copy, as we slouch deeper and deeper into an era defined by our collective decision that life is too hard and we all should just slip into a warm bath of low standards and perpetual excuses.”
Well I suppose it had to happen eventually: Freddie DeBoer has written something that I agree with 100%.

The incident mirrors similar drone incursions in Europe in recent months which led to the closure of airports in Brussels and Denmark and caused significant security tensions.
Four unidentified military-style drones breached no-fly zone to target Zelenskyy's arrival in Dublin
Gardaí are investigating whether the drones took off from land in Dublin or from an undetected ship.

There are specific reasons Trumpists want war on Venezuela, but there‘s a generic one: they crave power to make war on anyone, any time, for completely fabricated reasons, and then to use the guise of war to increase violence and repression everywhere, including home.

They are lawless bestial scum.

“That rot appears in journalists in different forms: debasing themselves at the feet of power because it’s rewarded; allowing themselves to be debased by the powerful to maintain status and access; and identifying more with their powerful subjects than regular people“
I love the point @marisakabas.bsky.social makes about jumping to the head of the line by doing sensational “journalism” with questionable ethics. This has been a thing in sports media for a long time, as management thinks hiring influencers is the key to getting any more clicks.
Moral rot in elite journalism is killing the whole field
The Nuzzi/RFK Jr. mess and the revelation of Esptein's journo pals lay bare a profound moral absence at the heart of our free press.

The more NYT apologists try to minimize this the clearer it becomes that they don't understand why much of the public doesn't trust legacy media.
