UK public has paid £200bn to shareholders of key industries since privatisation.

In public ownership that would have gone into infrastructure, lower bills.

Privatisation delivered low investment, high bills, no tax on dividends to foreign investors.

No end to nightmare without public ownership.

Could be something to do with her policy advisers being city bankers.
The budget didn't bother the powerful.

No windfall tax on banks. Govt subsidy of £23bn+ continues.

No windfall tax on energy companies, £125bn profit since 2020.

Corporate profiteering and subsidies continue. No curbs on corporate welfare.

85,500 have wealth of £2.8 trillion, hardly touched.
The government’s budget is simply managing decline
The budget does little to improve living standards or facilitate sustained economic growth

In the 1980s people used to say "Don't promote me I can't afford it" for similar reasons.
UK budget freeze on income tax thresholds

Over the next 5 yrs, 780,000 more people, the poorest, will pay income tax for the first time.

Someone earning £50,000 will pay £9,512 in tax, an increase of £1,247 because thresholds are frozen.

Can't grow economy by hitting low/middle income earners.

I thought it was excellent and well balanced.
1/5 It was entirely predictable that The Telegraph would jump on @DavidOlusoga’s Empire series to fight its right wing culture war for control of our public history. Let’s see what they’ve done:

I've got news for them. Scottish independence voters haven't trusted BBC news since the 2014 referendum campaign when Nick Robinson doctored an Alex Salmond speech to change its meaning . He admitted it and received no punishment. There were other incidents of impartiality being a myth .
BBC Chair Samir Shah and Robbie Gibb asked to explain why they drew up a plan, as revealed by Byline Times, to win back the "trust" of Reform voters, but haven't made similar plans for voters of any other party.

Gibb says Reform voters least likely to trust the BBC bylinetimes.com/2025/06/09/b...

Was the "Russian" report , buried by Johnson, ever released. If not why is Labour not releasing it.

He's lying. Not increasing tax thresholds is increasing tax on working people and pensioners to suggest otherwise insults our intelligence.

US billionaires and Russian oligarchs carving up the spoils of the Ukrainian economy and resources without caring about the Ukrainian people.

Very medieval.
According to multiple reports, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev drafted a 28-point “peace” proposal via a private channel. The draft would force Ukraine to cede eastern territory (incl. Donbas),👇

Letting him take the lead is not the way to tackle Farage and Reform. Why are Labour not taking the fight to Reform and showing them up to be the racist shambles that they are?
If you do nothing about immigration you effectively give farage number 10.

That's the world view that the Pilgrim Fathers brought with them to the US. They left England because they couldn't impose their views on everyone there and wanted to establish a community where theirs was the only correct view
The idea that brought religious freedom is a myth.
Happy Thanks giving.
A reminder that when Christian Nationalists in the Republican Party lecture you about the importance of "religious freedom," they are not talking about YOUR religion or YOUR freedom. They are talking about THEIR freedom to impose THEIR religion on you.

💷 PFI buried the NHS in billions of debt 💸

Now it’s being rebranded + repackaged as a “new solution.”
But let’s not be fooled — a bad deal with a new name is still a bad deal.

The asylum system costs around 1% of UK government expenditure.
Surely there are bigger problems to be focussed on that will have a more immediate impact on working people's lives. Eg fixing NHS, education, water, transport, creating jobs.
Labour seems to be following Reform not attacking it.
Immigration is NOT tearing this country apart.

Politicians like Farage and Mahmodo are tearing it apart by their divisive rhetoric and dishonest framing of the known facts behind immigration.

I despise them for it.

Now 10 years here isn’t long enough. It has to be 20 years.

What a disgrace.
