China’s solar and wind generation grew 27% in the first half of 2025, contributing to a 2% decline in coal generation.

Combined with rapid electrification, China’s clean energy boom is rewiring the economy for deep decarbonisation

☀️ Big solar news from Sweden!

The country’s largest solar plant, the 100 MW Hultsfred Solar Farm, just went online. 🚀

Developed by Alight & Neoen, it’ll power up H&M Group with 95% of its clean energy output through a long-term deal.

It has been worse, but low wind in 1H2025 increased the needs.

Why gas? domestic production historically and access to North Sea resources, no hydro, low nuke and coal.

- Solar in 2025 to date is already on par with all of 2024
- Solar in the last 12 months is 30% higher than the previous period in spite of challenging market conditions
- Over the last 12 months, Solar and wind are now on par with nuclear! (46 TWh)

Finally, Sweden's branch organisation for the energy sector, @energiforetagen.bsky.social includes solar power in their insightful weekly statistical report.
And it delivers a few nuggets straight away:

Whether it is trying to bully us into buying crap American cars or lower our standards on climate reduction targets and keep buying gas and oil, no trade deal can force us as consumers to buy American crap.
Just say No - #BoycottUSA #BoycottAmericanMade and invest your money in a cleaner future.

This is an INSANE decision by the E.U.

“By signing up to mutual recognition of vehicle standards with the U.S., the E.U. has waved the white flag on road safety. This is not a technical detail – it is a political choice that puts trade convenience ahead of saving lives.”

This will kill people.

Batteries (electrochemical and thermal, like in Västerås) are a much quicker way to provide resilience and robustness to the power system. And it doesnt commit the taxpayer to an arm and a leg over generations.

This is availability of power source per load bin for Sweden in 2022. Wind contribution decreased at higher loads, but so did nuclear's. Hydro and import filled the gap.
"firm power" is not how I would describe nuclear in Europe over the last decade, neither new or old.
elektriccnight.bsky.social
You should not fall into the probabilistic fallacy. 1%CF is extremly improbable for Sweden, especially if including offshore wind.
Within the same probabilistic ballpark you have large scale nuclear unavailability (this summer a.o.), interconnection failures and large overestimates of max load.

Way to go, Denmark bridging the spark gap. Belgium, Sweden etc take note!

The Danish government has announced a major cut in the electricity tax – from 72.7 øre/kWh to the EU minimum of just 0.8 øre/kWh in 2026 and 2027.

For households, this means significant savings:

A typical family: ~4,000 DKK less per year

Pensioner couples: ~2,700 DKK less per year

I missed this in February - a chilling paper in The Lancet looking at life expectancy at birth in Gaza from 2017 to 2024. #genocide quantified.

A graph of life expectancy at birth where the value is steady up to 2023 and then plunges to about half that in 2024.

That's good for about 100,000 bpd reduced oil demand (based on an conservative average consumption per car of 550 l/yr). 👍

Make no mistake:

"wind turbines cause significantly fewer bird deaths than buildings, cats or oil pits. The Audubon Society says that climate change poses a bigger threat to birds than wind power."

It is indeed flabbergasting seen from this side of the pond how your current administration goes all in against renewables with no fear of ridicule.
But very much why we should celebrate such great achievements. The blueprint and roadmap is there now, the tide will turn again...

These two charts are giving fossil fuel investors nightmares!

This is the last three years of electricity provided to the California electricity grid from batteries and methane.

Read and weep fossil fools!

Europe to import $250 billion of US energy products per year under new Trump trade deal. *Total* EU-27 energy import now is ~€375 billion p.a. Even if the $250 billion of imports were technically possible, this would imply total EU energy dependence on the US.
