Lo único (o casi) que tengo que decir sobre la piratería es que estos últimos dos-tres años los jueguicos han vendido un montón, las empresas han ganado su buen dinero, y a a pesar de ello a mí han intentado sustituirme igual por una maquinita que hace mal mi trabajo para ahorrarse cuatro duros.

The lack of mainstream coverage of regular huge protests reminds me of a talk from a Twitter employees who explained that they had to drop BLM off the Trending Tags section because otherwise it would have been there permanently. The modern media environment has no appetite for sustained movements.

Esto es vergonzoso y distópico a tantos niveles que no sé por dónde empezar, pero os digo una cosa: cada segundo que pasa, mayor valor tiene lo escrito con mimo y por humanos, y mi enhorabuena a quien sigue fomentándolo y cuidándolo mientras dura el temporal.

Alexa has never been ghosted by the captain of the football team. But you have lived, your heart is beating, you have suffered, and you have something important to say. It's a human's job, to use words, and whatever job you give to a machine, that part of your brain goes dark. Maybe it's worth it when it comes to remembering phone numbers and directions, but when that part of your brain that uses words goes dark, that's a vast area that's very close to your soul. Don't let some internet platform convince you that what you have to say and create isn't worthwhile. Words are the echo of your soul. Honing that echo matters.

Cada vez que una empresa de IA generativa lanza una feature que les permite como usuarios “recrear” cierto estilo (Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Ghibli, etc), pregúntense de dónde sacaron la data de entrenamiento para que esas aplicaciones generen eso. Ninguna de esas marcas comerciales ni estudios de animación dio su permiso ni consentimiento para ello. Ninguno de los artistas y autores particulares, famosos o anónimos, dio su permiso ni consentimiento para ello. Ninguno de los ciudadanos (uds incluidos) con un perfil digital dio su permiso ni consentimiento para el uso de nuestros datos en estos modelos generativos. Y sin embargo estamos todos ahí dentro y estas empresas están usándonos como combustible para sus modelos generativos sin nuestro permiso ni consentimiento. Reflexionen antes de ser parte de este desastre. Reflexionen antes de subirse a cualquier tendencia en redes. Por mucho que se blanquee, desde dentro de la industria vemos como su verdadera función es exprimirnos y desecharnos.

Ninguna organización obrera que se precie puede apoyar esto.
"Nos empezó a ir quitando más y más terreno hasta el punto de que nosotros teníamos que imitar lo que hacía la IA en lugar de usarla como una herramienta que nos ayudara", afirma. "Incluso nos pedían que replicáramos los errores que hacía la IA, como poner menos dedos, porque según nuestras jefas, se veía muy bien. Era todo muy ridículo". Ana relata cómo los dos artistas acabaron quemándose, cómo la IA les supuso mucho más estrés que ayuda, y cómo sus superiores decidieron ignorar el asunto incluso habiendo quejas formales de por medio. "Sabían que había cosas que no funcionaban, que nunca nos consultaban, y que nos hacían hacer mal porque la IA lo hacía así", describe. "No aguanté, toda la situación era extenuante, no tenía ni tiempo libre porque también trabajábamos muchos fines de semana… y finalmente me fui". David también cuenta que la empresa fue adoptando el uso de la IA progresivamente; al principio solo para tomar referencias, y más tarde para hacer photobashing. Tan fuerte fue su apuesta que acabaron invirtiendo en una IA generativa privada mucho más potente (Krea). "Ahí fue cuando empezaron a coger los bocetos que hacía un compañero para alimentar a esta IA y, aparte, renderizaban esos bocetos (les daban color y volumen) con la herramienta", relata, describiendo ese punto de inflexión en la empresa como "extraño y preocupante". Cuando le pregunto a David si ese compañero artista era consciente de que se estaba usando su trabajo para alimentar a la IA de forma directa, me responde rotundamente que no, que el compañero no tenía ni idea. Ambos explican que la compañía lleva meses implementando la IA generativa de forma obligatoria en todo el departamento de localización y QA, algo que solo ha traído consecuencias negativas para sus empleados. "Es mucho más trabajo por el mismo tiempo y por la misma remuneración, y encima no tenemos derecho a queja", apunta Marta, que también explica que esa compañía piensa dejar de contar con el servicio externo de localización humana a corto plazo mientras su departamento se encarga de alimentar la herramienta de IA privada para las traducciones. Además del impacto en la carga de trabajo, Marta advierte de las consecuencias en la calidad del producto: "Hacer traducción con IA generativa mata la creatividad que traían los traductores, especialmente en juegos donde la localización en sí misma es importante para determinadas expresiones que buscan ser cercanas o simpáticas. Se convierte en un trabajo mecánico que se carga la personalidad del proyecto". Añade que "por ahorrarse un dinero, se están cargando la identidad de ese proyecto".
