i would hope that increasingly advanced automation would encourage more people to advocate for universal basic income and/or expanded social safety nets, but i fear that most people will instead become luddites and reactionaries engaging in futile terrorism and discrimination as millions starve.

As others have pointed out, the founders never foresaw a corrupt president (which we have) abusing the pardon power to absolve all criminals and miscreants for any reason, nor did our Daffy Duck Supreme Court ever think it might not be a good idea to put said president above the law.
